"The Shadow Out of Time" is one of Lovecraft's most ingenious tales. Certainly far more of a science fiction story than horror with a deliberate slow sinister pacing. I went for a more open, grander sound here helped by full choir, orchestra, and some light sound design.

The Necronomicon (Book of Dead Names) is a fictional tome of knowledge created by H.P. Lovecraft. The author of the Necronomicon in Lovecraft's tales is the "Mad Arab" Abdul Alhazred. The book contains account of many unspeakable horrors, including the Great Old Ones, and how to summon them.

Bitter sour to face ahead, to break this burden rotten dead
Bitter vile that you would never see the fruit of this work
But sweeter yet than any else, a future destined with blood everlasting in health
The dream is them, they are dream that is yet to begin.

Dyer and Danforth are exploring the ancient city of the Elder Things when they come across the murals that tell the history of the Elder Things rise to domination over the Earth, and their subsequent decline.

I've written this in an early 20th Century classical style for choir and orchestra, which I found suitable for the subject of Earths ancient history.
