Cilantro's formation was serendipitous, to say the least. Arlyn, born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Puerto Rico, had recently ditched Miami for LA, where she ended up living next door to Portland-born producer and multi-instrumentalist Brendan. One morning, Arlyn heard Brendan jamming with a friend and knocked on the door. Three years later, the duo has relocated to Portland, in order to focus more on writing and recording and to inject some Afro-Latin flavor into an indie scene that was sorely missing it. From playing open mics when they first got to town, to playing this year's PDX PopNow, with tons of great shows in between, Cilantro has built a steady following in the Hispanic community around Oregon. The debut album, Intensidad, comes out October 1.
