The 2012 release of Lil' Louis “Fable” (in conjunction with Diamond Records) was a monumental release for Gramaphone Records. The legendary record store, a Chicago House institution and cornerstone of dance and electronic music culture both locally and increasingly globally, took its first steps in curating a record label to call its own. 

Now in 2015, the time is right to proudly present the first record to be released solely under the Gramaphone Records imprint. Garrett David, steps up to task at hand to deliver this masterfully crafted 4-track EP, A New Room. The young Chicago producer’s resume includes House buyer for Gramaphone and resident DJ at Queen!, a weekly event at the renowned Chicago venue Smart Bar. Thus far in his young career, Garrett’s work as a producer has appeared on Balance Recordings, Chicago’s Stripped and Chewed, and Discovery Recordings, as part of Bell Boys… overall not too bad for still being in your early 20’s! 

Garrett’s machines go to work on ‘Console Cowboy’, drums keenly aimed at the club caressed by lush chord stabs and a buoyant bassline. ‘Midi Sense’ takes us deeper with its inviting melody and vintage drums. Deftly affected chords stretch miles over crunchy, saturated beats on ‘Tunnels’. ‘Morning Mantra’ (produced in collaboration with Bell Boys cohort, Adam Rowe) rounds out the EP with its lightly treading groove and dreamy atmospherics.
