This re-edit, which kicks off one of my favorite mixtapes, is now the intro  to my radio show in ATL called "The Soul Chamber." on WRFG 89.3 FM. It's inspired by the sound and vibes of UK Soul super group, Silhouette Brown from their seminal self-titled debut album. I'd just come back from WMC in Miami and began working on a mixtape at the homie Dj Dug Boogie's studio  when I got a call from Stacy Epps.  She had just flown back from a trip to Japan and dropped by to catch up.  She heard me toying around with an interlude from an SB track I'd mashed-up with BT Express' "Do It 'Til You're Satisfied"  (BTW, this drum break is still one of the coldest not produced by James Brown). Stacy was feelin it and immediately started scatting and ad libbing. Within moments, we had lyrics.  She and stepped into the booth and made a little magic.

DJ Rhettmatic of the Beat Junkies is starting a 45 Vinyl Series that will feature his own production work & with artists that he worked with (New, Old, &Unreleased). All 45s will be limited edition runs & will be released thru the Beat Junkies’ sub-division label: Sound Junkies Recording. The 1st 45 single will contain 2 new songs as a ‘Double A’ side featuring 2 groups that Rhettmatic is a part of: The Visionaries & Crown Royale.

The other Double A-Side song, “Stratasphere” is a new song from Crown Royale (Jamall Bufford of The Black Opera & Rhettmatic). Jamall fka Buff1 gets down on a spacey Boom Bap track that Rhett lays down along with traditional scratch chorus hooks, on some dynamic duo DJ/MC steeze.

This doesn't exclusively mean unsigned and you'll note some music from career musicians. But even with long term artists the songs we selected felt less encumbered. Because of my heavy hand you'll also have to deal with an east coast bias but yo that ain't necessarily a bad thing all the time, is it?

Goes without saying but special thanks to the artists, we appreciate what you do. The Hip-Hop community suffered <a href="http://grandgood.com/category/qepd/rip/">great loss in 2017</a> and not enough can be said about the lost talent. At the same time, enthusiasm from young heads and old heads alike keeps it going. Lest we forget, many founding artists, like Coke La Rock pictured above, <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/155302481@N07/albums/72157664169668918/with/24536074467/">continue to walk among us</a>.  So again, big up to all the artists but also the rest of the community of listeners, show promoters, podcasters, writers....
