Once again, I did not make this, it is NOT my work. This song is called "Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser" and was the HRE's anthem from 1792 to 1806. This song is also confused with the anthem of Austria-Hungary. 

This is because while yes, this is the same anthem for both Empires, it is LESS A NATIONAL ANTHEM and more of a TRIBUTE SONG TO HRE Emperor Francis II/Emperor Francis I of Austria (This is the same person).

After the dissolution of the HRE, Francis II went on to be the first emperor of Austria-Hungary (Francis I).

Born in Adelaide, Grant studied voice at the Elder Conservatorium and then the Opera School at the Royal College of Music in London, subsequently winning a place on the Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

His roles for the ROH include Billy Wayne Smith in the world premiere of Anna Nicole, Tarquinius The Rape of Lucretia, Harlequin Ariadne auf Naxos, Schaunard, Bello La fanciulla del West, Demetrius A Midsummers Night's Dream, Morales Carmen,  Marullo Rigoletto, Rolla I masnadieri and Imperial Commissioner Madama Butterfly.

Other appearances include the Count Le nozze di Figaro for Garsington Opera, Marcello La bohème at Opera Holland Park, Demetrius at the Teatro Real in Madrid as well as Ned Keene Peter Grimes for Teatro Perez Galdos in Gran Canaria. He appears regularly with Opera North, starring as Robin Oakapple in their acclaimed Jo Davies production of Gilbert & Sullivan's Ruddigore as well as Albert Werther and Sasha Paradise Moscow.

He has sung Marcello La bohème for Raymond Gubbay at the Royal Albert Hall and also Schaunard for Glyndebourne. He recently sang the title role in Opera Holland Park's new version of Fantastic Mr Fox by Tobias Picker, Eugene Onegin for Stanley Hall Opera as well as Abraham in James MacMillan's Clemency directed by Katie Mitchell for ROH2.

In his native Australia, Grant has sung Zurga Les pêcheurs de perles, the Count Le nozze di Figaro and Starbuck in Jake Heggie's Moby Dick for State Opera of South Australia and Yamadori Madama Butterfly for Opera Australia. He sang Phillip II in the premiere of Isaac Nathan's ballad opera Don John of Austria, orchestrated by Sir Charles Mackerras for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

He played the lead role in the Channel 4/ABC film of The Eternity Man, which won the 2009 Rose d’Or Award for Best Performing Arts programme; he also recorded the Forester for the BBC animated film of The Cunning Little Vixen with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin conducted by Kent Nagano as well as taking the role of Carlo in Judith Weir’s film opera Armida for Channel 4 TV.

As a busy concert soloist, Grant performed with the Australia Ballet in the Australian tour of Carmina Burana/Faure Requiem and has since sung Carmina Burana with the Bach Choir at the Royal Festival Hall, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic under Daniele Gatti, Ulster Orchestra as well as for Raymond Gubbay at the Royal Albert Hall. Other performances include Fauré Requiem (Hallé Orchestra, Carl Davis), Judas Maccabeus (King’s Lynn Festival), Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass (Philharmonia/Brighton Festival), Brahms' Ein Deutches Requiem with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and with the Bach Choir/Philharmonia at the Cheltenham Festival and Westminster Cathedral, Britten’s War Requiem (Hertfordshire Chorus and Huddersfield Choral Society), Tippett's A Child of Our Time (Crouch End Festival Chorus/Barbican), Christus St John Passion (Irish Chamber Orchestra), and Messiah with the Royal Choral Society at the Royal Albert Hall.

Other roles include the title roles in Britten’s Owen Wingrave, Mozart's Don Giovanni and Thomas' Hamlet, Papageno Die Zauberflöte, Silvio I Pagliacci, Escamillo Carmen, Frank/Fritz Die tote Stadt, Yeletsky Queen of Spades, Figaro The Barber of Seville, Dandini La Cenerentola, Belcore L'elisir d'amore, Sid Albert Herring, and Nathan in Nicholas Maw’s Sophie’s Choice.

Future engagements include the revival of Ruddigore as Robin Oakapple for Opera North; Figaro in The Barber of Seville for ETO; a revival of James Macmillan's Clemency for the Edinburgh Festival and the title role in Don Giovanni for Garsington Opera.
