Helmed by world-renowned drum & bass and reggae DJ Liondub, the Liondub Internatonal imprint has made massive strides since it's inception. Last year saw the christening of the Liondub45 sub label, which specializes in collectible, deep, vintage dub and scorching Roots Reggae 7”s and showcases the talents of a veritable who’s who of modern Dub producers and original foundation vocalists.

Sugar Minott is a hard act to follow, but there could be none better than Judah Eskender Tafari. Coming up at the height of roots reggae music, Judah first performed as a musician at 12 Tribes shows in Jamaica and later recorded his first big releases at Studio 1. Beginning with "Jah Light", he went on to record other hit songs like "Rastafari Tell You", "Always Trying" and "Just Another Day". These tracks and many more have gained him international notoriety in the past 30 years and lead up to his work with Ras Kush's Black Redemption label. In all of his music Ras Kush delivers a positive message of Faith, Hope and Charity. 

NYC based keyboardist, engineer, and producer Victor Axelrod, aka Ticklah, has been a continual and integral part of the NYC music scene for over a decade. He is a founding member of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Antibalas and the Easy Star All-Stars with whom he continues to record and perform. In the past several years he has recorded keys for Mark Ronson, D'Angelo, Estelle, MIA as well as the Amy Winehouse. In addition to Liondub45 he has released his own work on the NYC reggae label Easy Star. Wether its a dubbed-out Sharon Jones remix or an original groove built form the ground up, Ticklah's tracks are always captivating and rich with sonic detail.  

Originally released as the b-side to "Life" on Black Redemption, Land Of Confusion was voiced at Ticklah's studio and released in 2007. Three years later, Ticklah has arranged a new instrumental track around the vocal, adding his own signature out-board effects, percussion and keyboard harmonies to the conscious lyrics of the "Commander". The resulting track and version are a musical gem; melding the dub experimentation of Creation Steppers with the inimitable spirit of Studio 1 and Soul Syndicate. It's no surprise then that Jah Shaka has offered steady support for this track on his soundsystem time and time again! Three years in the making and well worth the wait, Land of Confusion is a must have for all fans of dub reggae and roots music worldwide.

 With this new release, Sonar Kollektiv is delighted to introduce an artist with a reputation that precedes him. The living legend that is Jah Wobble would actually need no further introduction. As a founding member of Public Image Limited (PiL), he has collaborated with Holger Czukay, Brian Eno, Francois Kevorkian, Björk, Peter Gabriel, Sinead O'Connor and Bill Laswell (to name but a few). Thanks to his experimental journeys into the nooks and crannies of dub and world music, the London born and raised John Wardle (his real name) has become one of the most influential musicians/producers of our time. There's probably no other bass player who constantly reinvents himself as recklessly and unabashedly as Wobble. Over the last seventeen years, he chiefly released material on his own label 30 Hertz Records. Therefore, it's an even bigger honour for Sonar Kollektiv to have him put out his latest work on their imprint.

On the upcoming album “Inspiration”, Wobble has teamed up with producer/engineer Alex McGowan (Tricky, Martina Topley Bird, Wilko Johnson) and the London-based singer PJ Higgins, who has collaborated with a host of artists over the years, lending her quirky and distinct anecdotes to many a project and recordings. Currently, she co-fronts the critically acclaimed Dub Colossus, who were winners of the Songlines Cross Cultural Collaboration 2013. The album was mostly recorded and mixed at McGowan’s Space Eko Studio in London.

As a pre-album 12inch, we get the track “Watch How You Walk” in  three remixes that couldn't be more diverse. For instance, let's take Dennis Bovell. He is an undisputed maestro of UK reggae – having worked as a musician, producer, writer, and arranger on countless reggae, punk, pop and rock albums. His dub albums were an inspiration to the likes of Adrian Sherwood and Mad Professor, as well as being the pioneer of Lover's Rock. His remix of “Watch How You Walk” catches that specific UK sound system vibe perfectly and leaves enough room for PJ Higgins' voice to shine to the fullest. For extra rubba dub effect he even adds some of his own ad-libs.

Next up is Anthony Parchment, aka DJ Kutz. This younger producer draws from bass and post-dubstep as well as basic electronic music forms such as house and techno. He sports a more dapper rework interpreting Jah Wobble's dub roots to work for the current flavour of the floors around the world. Kutz does this masterfully with enough natty twists to maintain his remix timeless like the original. Future bass music.

Not many artists have the privilege to even think about asking the godfather of dub, Lee “Scratch” Perry, to have a go at remixing their material. The former Upsetter, now at the age of 77, still manages to deliver some pure magic and an updated 2014 version of what he used to cook up in his infamous Black Ark studios in Kingston more than forty years ago. Be prepared for a sound design that is as futuristic as it can get and some added vamp rhymes by the master himself. Even without this remix, this release would be a highlight of 2014. But with Lee Perry's contribution, it's one of the essential 12inches of the year. Let's bag it in!

The Lone Ranger is one of Jamaica's most influential early dancehall DJs. He was twice voted N°1 deejay on the island, in 1979 and 1980. He helped pioneer a newly rhythmic, on-the-beat rhyming style that led DJ toasting into the modern age, and punctuated his lyrics with bizarre exclamations and sound effects ("bim" and "ribbit" were his favorites) that made him perhaps the most imaginative stylist of his time. Without Lone Ranger, no Yellowman, no Shabba Ranks, no Sean Paul...

Thanks to the incredible production skills of French dubmeister Grant Phabao, who crafted for him a splendid album in 2005 (Kulchaklash / to be pronounced "Culture Clash"), and a hit single in 2006 making waves all over the irie globe, with rub-a-dub partner Carlton Livingston and their cover of Dandy Livingston's Message To You Rudie, The Lone Ranger is now back with his 12th album, Sweet Talking, and another big step towards bringing back the golden age of rub-a-dub!

Grant Phabao plays all instruments (with the help of keyboard wizard Soul Sugar, formerly from Seven Dub). He produced, polished and mastered himself the 13 tracks, along with three other full length albums (!), for respectively Carlton Livingston, The Silvertones and The Jays...
