Helmed by world-renowned drum & bass and reggae DJ Liondub, the Liondub Internatonal imprint has made massive strides since it's inception. Releasing a steady stream of top-shelf material from a growing stable of producers and vocalists, it has become a go-to source for emerging, top-notch music at the nexus of reggae, dubstep and drum & bass sounds. Last year saw the christening of the Liondub45 sub label, which specializes in collectible, deep, vintage dub and scorching Roots Reggae 7”s and showcases the talents of a veritable who’s who of modern Dub producers and original foundation vocalists.

Sugar Minott is a hard act to follow, but there could be none better than Judah Eskender Tafari. Coming up at the height of roots reggae music, Judah first performed as a musician at 12 Tribes shows in Jamaica and later recorded his first big releases at Studio 1. Beginning with "Jah Light", he went on to record other hit songs like "Rastafari Tell You", "Always Trying" and "Just Another Day". These tracks and many more have gained him international notoriety in the past 30 years and lead up to his work with Ras Kush's Black Redemption label. In all of his music Ras Kush delivers a positive message of Faith, Hope and Charity. 

NYC based keyboardist, engineer, and producer Victor Axelrod, aka Ticklah, has been a continual and integral part of the NYC music scene for over a decade. He is a founding member of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Antibalas and the Easy Star All-Stars with whom he continues to record and perform. In the past several years he has recorded keys for Mark Ronson, D'Angelo, Estelle, MIA as well as the Amy Winehouse. In addition to Liondub45 he has released his own work on the NYC reggae label Easy Star. Wether its a dubbed-out Sharon Jones remix or an original groove built form the ground up, Ticklah's tracks are always captivating and rich with sonic detail.  

Originally released as the b-side to "Life" on Black Redemption, Land Of Confusion was voiced at Ticklah's studio and released in 2007. Three years later, Ticklah has arranged a new instrumental track around the vocal, adding his own signature out-board effects, percussion and keyboard harmonies to the conscious lyrics of the "Commander". The resulting track and version are a musical gem; melding the dub experimentation of Creation Steppers with the inimitable spirit of Studio 1 and Soul Syndicate. It's no surprise then that Jah Shaka has offered steady support for this track on his soundsystem time and time again! Three years in the making and well worth the wait, Land of Confusion is a must have for all fans of dub reggae and roots music worldwide.

Renowned sound engineer and record producer Mike ‘Prince Fatty’ Pelanconi has been a prominent member of the reggae and dub scene in the UK since the mid-90s. Finding himself frustrated by the tempos and mixes of certain records he loved – typified by DJing one time after Don Letts who had already played half his selection – he set about recording his own versions with a super group of London’s finest reggae musicians. 

“I have worked with many of the UK-based reggae musicians at one point or another so I went about selecting the best possible musicians from my experiences with two criteria in mind: the best skills and the most vibe. At the same time my Dub Supervisor and Reggae Jedi aka Little Roy and I had started to record tracks for his new album and I found myself recording reggae every day. The Pioneers were dropping by my studio, Al Capone was cutting specials and singers like Winston Francis were just hanging out.”

As well as versions of favourite reggae and soul songs, two tracks stand out: covers of Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s Shimmy Shimmy Ya and Cypress Hill’s Insane in the Brain.

“I was sad when Ol’ Dirty passed away and for me the great hip hop era ended with him. I cut the version of Shimmy Shimmy Ya soon after he died. As a tribute we often hold a minute’s silence when Horseman and I perform it live. We did Insane In The Brain for fun as we had a show supporting Madness. The nutty boys challenged us to a sound clash and they lost. Though we played a dirty hand, they were gracious in defeat.”

The vocal line-up on the album also include Hollie Cook – Slits singer, daughter of Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook and new Mr Bongo signing. Also on the album is a dub of That Very Night from Hollie’s own debut album. 
Prince Fatty’s 2007 debut album Survival Of The Fattest achieved widespread critical acclaim from the music press and was supported across BBC Radio, resulting in a raucous live session on Mark Lamarr’s show. Favouring recording on vintage equipment to preserve his signature sound, Pelanconi’s unique style has attracted the likes of Lily Allen, Graham Coxon, Little Barrie, Gregory Isaacs and Sinead O'Connor to work with him. He has recently opened his own studio, The Ironworks, in Brighton.

The Lone Ranger is one of Jamaica's most influential early dancehall DJs. He was twice voted N°1 deejay on the island, in 1979 and 1980. He helped pioneer a newly rhythmic, on-the-beat rhyming style that led DJ toasting into the modern age, and punctuated his lyrics with bizarre exclamations and sound effects ("bim" and "ribbit" were his favorites) that made him perhaps the most imaginative stylist of his time. Without Lone Ranger, no Yellowman, no Shabba Ranks, no Sean Paul...

Thanks to the incredible production skills of French dubmeister Grant Phabao, who crafted for him a splendid album in 2005 (Kulchaklash / to be pronounced "Culture Clash"), and a hit single in 2006 making waves all over the irie globe, with rub-a-dub partner Carlton Livingston and their cover of Dandy Livingston's Message To You Rudie, The Lone Ranger is now back with his 12th album, Sweet Talking, and another big step towards bringing back the golden age of rub-a-dub!

Grant Phabao plays all instruments (with the help of keyboard wizard Soul Sugar, formerly from Seven Dub). He produced, polished and mastered himself the 13 tracks, along with three other full length albums (!), for respectively Carlton Livingston, The Silvertones and The Jays...
