Atmospheres 004

Willow is a song that envelopes and comforts, that takes its time to grow and reach its final, peaceful moments.   Scrimshire explains: "This one is very special to me. Around the time I had the guitar melody in mind and had begun recording it, my wife had her old childhood piano tuned, or tried to at least. For a long time the piano wasn't with her and while it was away, it suffered a lot of damage which doesn't seem to be repairable. But we got it tuned as best as we could. And knowing it would perhaps be the last time, I decided to try and record it. Partly because it's beautiful and partly as a document for her to always remember it by. I set up and recorded. I had to transpose myself cos the piano was already out of key by over a semitone. I brought it into ableton and pitched it up the extra few cents it needed to be with the rest of the song. But I recorded for a long time and wanted to capture every creak and noise. It's a little indulgent in that way, but worth it. This end of lifecycle nature of this piano feels perfect for the autumn album."  Set for release at the height of the season it’s dedicated to, ‘Music For Autumn Lovers’ by Adam Scrimshire is an eight track album of lush, mostly acoustic based, minimal instrumentals eliciting a mixture of feelings for this special time of year.   Scrimshire explains, “Autumn resonates so strongly. There’s something very distinctive in this particular change of season, maybe it’s in how it holds so much “back-to-school” energy all the way through to the primal urge to hibernate and nest on the cusp of winter. For me there are so many distinct, unique sensations and latent memories, smells, visions that I can never quite pin down but hit me repeatedly throughout the autumn months in the UK.   The music in this album is an attempt to try and capture some of those things I struggle to express in words. The way the light changes as the sun comes lower. The way the air feels different as it cools after summer. The feeling of comfort despite the dying leaves and plants around us, making way for new growth. "

It’s something of a cosmic convergence that 11th Hour’s return to Frozen Plates features on release No. 11. The Belgian producer’s inimitable mastery of bass and atmosphere takes new form in the dark and shamanic tunes “Rakshasa” and “Vanara,” replete with exotic and mesmerizing vocals.
As has been our practice, FZP11 will be limited to 30 cuts 10” black vinyl. In a first for Frozen Plates, however, this release also finds its way onto blue transparent 10” vinyl, limited to 20 pieces.
Both series are numbered separately, from 1-30 and 1-20 respectively. The release date is 2020.12.18, Friday at 9 PM CET (Budapest time). Mark your calendars and set your clocks now!
