She said: when Gary was working on some "synth sounds/programming" for our last tune...he came up with a little snippet of sound that he really liked...he sent it on to me...and i really liked it as well!! He asked me if I may like to vibe off of that and come up with some piano melodies..and, perhaps, this could become an instrumental. So i listened to the snippet he sent me...and a few piano melodies found their way out of me...i always love when that happens..when i can be inspired by a piece of music from Gary...and then, in turn, inspire him as well. I sent my piano snippets over to Gary and then I was able to sit back and enjoy all of the wonderful things he added...Gary's guitars are, as always, strong, emotive and SO very much alive! He creates such amazing walls of sound...layers and layers of different tones and textures that always ALWAYS gives me goosebumps. In this piece, he also tapped into his "piano side" and came up with some AMAZING and dramatic piano lines!!! Gary is constantly pushing the envelope as to how sound "lives and breathes"...in this piece, you will hear/feel what i mean...the music will ebb and flow...and weave it's way all the way through you as you take this musical journey with us! I am ever so grateful to Gary for continuing to share his musical gifts with me...and for not only appreciating the melodies that come out of me...but, for making them into so much "more".

He Said: I was working on some sound design for our last tune and I sort of liked this one sound model I built and sent it over to Jaime. I thought , "how is she gonna be inspired by this " lol. Then within a day (which is often the case with Jaime) she sent me back what is essentially the intro to this piece. I was kind of blown away. This small section just was so epic to my ear, I was immediately intrigued as to what would follow. I started to build the track from there and we had discussed this track being an instrumental. I always love Jaimes Piano work and this song is no exception. I tend to try to get out of the way of it to let its nuance shine through but at the end of the day there seems to be a lot of electric guitar on this track which is only a testament to just how much I was inspired by Jaimes piano. I tend to be more of a "groove agent" with guitar and it was a lot of fun to let it out a bit and do some experimenting and some (Slow Lo-ing) as I call it (not to be confused with solo-ing...heheh)..  Any ways as always makin tunes with Jaime is a dream and I enjoy it a lot!!  and so it is :)

The Black Page #2 by Frank Zappa, covered by Rachel Flowers.

Frank Zappa was a unique artist who combined many different elements from many different styles. He loved to take rhythms and melodies to another level.

The Black Page is one of the pieces where Frank used unusual rhythms to take a piece to a new level.

For the drums I used Session Drummer VSL, Garitan Jazz, and Big Band.  Yamaha M06 for the synths and glockenspiel. Nord Electro 4D for the marimba. Nord Piano 2 HA88 for the piano. Fender jazz bass, custom MarbleHead guitar, and flute. I'm also singing the trombone solo at the end.

Frank was always hearing the studio musicians in LA talking about the fear of going into sessions some morning and being faced with "the black page."  So he decided to write his "Black Page."

The drums were from Session Drummer plus some percussion. More percussion was from Garitan Jazz and Big Band, along with the horns. The marimba was from the Nord Electro 4D. The xylophone, violin, fretless bass, and synth were all on the Yamaha M06.

Evening Breeze

Another Pat Metheny tune from the Question and Answer album. This is originally a guitar trio arrangement. I tried to stay as close to the original as possible. It was surprising to me how complete the trio arrangement was. It wasnt much of a strech to transcribe it for the string quartet.
