Since I was a wee lass, I have been obsessed with furry felines. They captured my heart, imagination, and probably gave me toxoplasmosis. But I digress. When Dani Deahl approached me with her cat-themed banger, I was all in for a release on Play Me. But I felt the song simply needed MOAR CATS. So I remixed it complete with ALL THE CATS. Yes, those synths are MADE OF CATS. However, no cats were harmed in the making of this remix.

French producer Chloe Herry, better known by her stage name CloZee, has spent the better part of the last year on tour between North America and Europe. “Revolution”, her latest pay-what-you-want offering on the Gravitas Music imprint, could be seen as a reflection of those journeys. In some moments, the listener may find themselves deep in a lush forest surrounded by towering trees. Just the next minute, the surroundings morph into an underground venue among sweaty bodies all pulsating to the same beat. The true beauty of CloZee’s music can be found in this subdued yet intricate sophistication; the juxtaposition of elegance and detail create subtle contrast which can be seen swirling together upon observation of any of these five songs.

Her graceful entrance begins with “Anticlimax”, a well named tune that focuses more on the evolving groove and tender melodies than any pronounced drop. The title track cleverly utilizes glitchy percussion to offset the orchestral and middle eastern harmonies. “Sankar’s Lake” gets the body moving with a catchy rhythm and flow, intelligently using bass to keep the pace progressing. Resolving on a haunting tone, “The Path To Heaven” again places focus on the delicate yet impactful drum work, culminating in a perfect conclusion for the album.

Robotsexmusic - TRASH feat Charlie Day

This one time, Western Digital (or maybe it was Maxtor) released a bunch of different sounds of hard drives dying, to help customers diagnose dying hard drives. Some website (Gizmodo, maybe?) held a contest to make a song out of those sounds, and that's what I did here. Every sound in this song is from that "dying hard drive sounds" collection. The song that won the contest was some generic techno song that was 99% various instruments from Garage Band, and like 1% the dying hard drive sounds. I was disappoint.

Last Fall, Gravitas Recordings teamed up with an all star cast of international talent to bring about the first volume of the Neurovation Charity Compilation, with all proceeds benefitting Charity:Water. As a follow up to the smashing success of the compilation, Mr. Bill and the Gravitas crew have joined forces once more to present "Cheyah Remixed", a collection of re-imagined versions from the Cheyah Remix Contest and beyond. This special release is presented for free / pay what you want, with all profits again being donated to help bring clean water to developing nations around the world.

The album kicks off with the title track "Cheyah", showcasing Mr. Bill's meticulous talent with evolving percussion and big room synth stabs. The grand prize winner of the remix contest Haywyre brings a jazzy feel with his standout offering. French producer CloZee focuses in on the glitchy aspects of the original, building fresh rhythms with chopped melody and organic aural additives. Psymbionic & Great Scott tag team their remix, fusing their styles to create a tune that's both dancefloor and headphone worthy. Hailing from the land down under, Australian GRUFF delivers it fast and heavy with his midtempo take. Anchored in deeper vibes, Osiris & Sooko's ethereal contribution evokes vivid emotion, as Somatoast switches things up with a psychedelic dub closer for the album.
