Since Amani Friend (of Desert Dwellers, Liquid Bloom) met Alex DeYoung in 1995, the duo has experienced many forms of electronic music. As the scene has shifted and evolved, the two producer's paths have ebbed and flowed in and out of each other's lives. After a long hiatus, Variant Field have come to Gravitas Recordings for their first EP in over a decade, Immeasurable. Represented via three original tracks, two edits, and remixes by Lil Fish and DISSØLV, Immeasurable evokes a timeless space, a portal beyond the edge of genres and boxes. Immeasurable nods to several nodes along the electronic music spectrum the two have experienced since the mid '90s, while bringing the music into modern bass realms. Through this, Variant Field has successfully masterminded an emotive, cinematic piece of work that is in perpetual flux.
 
In winter, a mysterious "Silhouette" stands tall in front of the dark gateway, welcoming listeners as she ushers them through the arch. Rewinding time, autumn re-emerges and courages "Letting Go" through hypnotic, melodic beats. "Immeasurable" is an explorative odyssey that floats through a tranquil nebula. Contributing their own creations of the title track, Lil Fish incorporates hypnotic chants and ethereal world influence that precedes wobbly bass energy, while DISSØLV adds dominant yet quivery basslines to the ether. Fast forwarding to spring, "Letting Go" further propels the enchanting, tribal excursion. Coming full circle in summer, "Silhouette" is a darker, more modern IDM offering that pulls listeners back through the gateway and shuts the portal.

LostinSound.org is excited to premiere the @DevinKroesmusic X @ResonantLanguage collaboration "Misty Peaks" from the forthcoming @chillagerecords compilation album Crunksauce Vol. 5  which features 20 different producers' creations covering a diverse range of genres, including artists such as Wu Wei, The Digital Connection, Spoken Bird, Secret Recipe and more. 

"Misty Peaks" is reminiscent of an early Emancipator production, but with a full dose of trip-and-drip-hop. Devin Kroes' reverberating acoustic guitar swirls in and around psy-breaks built by Colorado's Resonant Language.  The result is something beautifully cinematic and gripping that pours out slowly from the speaker. 

Chillage has been supporting the releases of west coast bass musicians for a number of years, and this fifth installment of their Crunksauce series was the first time they opened submissions to the public. Tunes from established producers and a handful of fresh faces fill the 19 track release. Chillage is releasing three tracks each week in various outlets before the March 29 official release date.

They are the absolute cutting edge of combining the live and organic with the infinite possibilities of digital and electronics.  It was great reinterpreting and integrating their sounds. Have you ever walked down a city street late at night, stepped into a phone booth, and accidentally discovered a portal to a jungle world, crowded with lasers and lights? If not, the closest parallel is listening to Spellbound, AHEE's latest EP. Spellbound combines old school music with modern production to produce jungle vibes in a city warehouse. Throughout five adventurous tracks, Spellbound offers a journey through uncharted realms of electronic music, merging classic rave sounds with hypnotic tribal elements to create an immersive experience for all.


Dropped onto the midst of a modern warehouse dancefloor, listeners groove out alongside the “iLLest Alien” through a course of dynamic house frequencies. Nature’s tranquil noises soon launch “Spellbound” into a jungle of ethnic instrumentation that becomes immersed within the space bass environment. After finding your way back to the main dancefloor, AHEE and Dan Konopka greet you to “Late Night Beats” that provide experimental, yet energetic breakbeats. Leaving the event, listeners are treated to an “Alien Popsicle,” which tantalize tastebuds with a fast-pace and tense rave buildup into a gratifying Big Beat drop. Once the popsicle nears completion, unknown forces interfere and cause it to burst, resulting in a didgeridoo that transfers you back to the phone booth completely “Splattermouth”-ed, questioning what had happened.

Coming off the success of his previous singles released on the Gravitas Infusion series, Orenda returns to Gravitas Recordings to make his full EP debut with Reverie. For his first time working on a musical project of this magnitude, Trevor wanted to contribute to the emerging world bass scene. Reverie is inspired by the marriage of ethereal musical elements with aggressive, powerful bass. Representing a battle between light and darkness, which combat overhead a fusion of world music influences, all seven tracks present the stark contrast on both sides.

Listeners are transported to a majestic land in the title track “Reverie,” hastily greeted by an enchantress who observes the battle as light and darkness collide into a powerful bass. Produced alongside Equanimous, tribal chants are consistently relayed in "Mystic Descent" to accompany the beautiful soundscape and chill oscillations that follow. Cackles precede deep dub in “Numinus” as darkness strategizes its plan of attack. On the other side, the light warriors prepare for the next battle within a dark cave, while mystical currents flow through the water to provide strength in “Marmoris.” Glitch and dub unify in “Fracture,” lamenting on the ruptured state of the land. “You Know” is the calm before the storm, as a vibey bass prepares each side for its last chance at triumph. Featuring DTO, “Gāyatrī” concludes Orenda’s debut EP as each side embarks on an ethnic expedition towards the battlegrounds.

Long ago, the Ancient Aztecs observed the stars through pond reflections. “Walking In The Stars,” out via Gravitas Recordings, is the celestial creation of Bosa, David Starfire, and AHEE that pays homage and serves as a connection to the ancient construct. From Sunev's (Bosa) inspiration of indigenous musical sources and experiences traveling abroad, Stephan’s (Bosa) seasoned veteran status in the festival circuit, David Starfire’s legendary prestige as the pioneer of the global bass genre, and AHEE’s eminence for exploring uncharted realms of electronic music, this trio of Los Angeles virtuosos is an ingenious and resourceful coalescence. Throughout four inventive minutes, a subterfuge of basses and world percussion are employed, woven with a bluesy sentiment and a dash of pop vocals to permeate emotions. At its core, “Walking In The Stars” employs enticing tribal rhythms to escort you on an introspective journey as the drumbeat transports your body abroad to a distant land.
