Where Are We? » EP from Garrett David and Adam Rowe, the Chicago-based duo who use to cooperate under Bell Boys moniker. It’s their third collaboration after a first EP on Discovery Recordings and a 7’ on Star Creature . Both dj’s and working for Chicago institution Gramaphone Records, Garrett David is a resident at the Smart Bar and Adam Rowe is the graphic designer of S&C. WOLF Music (@nysoul) heads Stu & Matt are individuals who are always keeping their ear to the ground in order to discover new talents for their longstanding record label. They also always keep faith with their residents and artists who have been with them since pretty much right in the beginning. They've actually stated in the past that the label is based around their three resident producers, Greymatter, KRL and Medlar who have been a staple on the label and regulars at their showcases since the very beginning. Believing in the development of an artist's sound is maybe not something every label does these days, usually playing it safe and going with the sound of the moment. But not WOLF Music, who stay true to their roots.

With that being said, resident @Medlar is back with another EP for the UK staple. Speaking of development of sound, WOLFEP042 is once again an indication that Medlar is an extremely versatile producer, this time opting for a more Detroit-inspired, electro sound. Each track on the EP is named after one of the producer's favourite restaurants in Palermo, Istanbul, Paris and of course Peckham. And who better to enlist for help on a track based on a South London restaurant than @FYIChris, two of Peckham's finest. 

Our premiere, 'Queen of Tacos' has some tough drums with a sampled drum break forming the basis of the groove while a deep bass perfectly plays into the rhythm. Warm chords and warbled acidy tones contrast the slightly colder drums, lending a nice balance to the tune. A saw-y lead synth takes us away into the climax while a cheeky vocal sample asks "are you telling me that you can't get this in Mexico?". We foresee this one to be a dance floor monster, taking punters into some joy-filled late night moments.

'All I want' kicks off the EP with vintage drum machine beats that lock you in from the word 'go!' Adding to the groove is a bumping, shoulder popping analogue b-line, subsequently locking you in. Once the track has your full attention, a subtle male vocal speaking about a very well known New York DJ drops in and takes the track up a level.

Dream Girl takes the EP into a deeper territory. Warm bass that spills over and drips from the sub's. Melodies top the track from start to finish with a pitched down male 80's vocal samples that turns the track into a mind bending groove. Suitable for either lazy gatherings in the midday sun or reaching in to the corners of a dark club.

The formidable AOW label has this wonderfully hazy and warm EP by frenchman JLMT up next in schedule. This one is definitely one for the fans of that Canadian summer boogie sound that people like Jack J & Project Pablo are famed for. Dusty chords and Casio melodies swing to and fro over crunchy disco drums. We could listen to this stuff all day long.

Now he returns to the label with an EP that brings the theme of moral deviation that accompanies humanity as a fine line. The EP stitches Sergio Barsotti's 80's references, which go through science fiction and the timbres of Synthwave and Dark Disco, with images of a futuristic hell taken from a dream. The result is a Inferno with neon lights covered like a game where each track represents a level, dialoguing with the apocalyptic climate in which we live.
