The autumn wind drifted in through the window, carrying the fragrance of fragrant olive blossoms into the classroom.

The theme of the Pair Test was: “Let’s explore Japanese family environments, their challenges, and possibilities.”

“Family environment, huh…” Haruto gazed out the window, lost in thought.
“Hey, shall we talk about ourselves?”

“It’s a typical dual-income household. Our parents are always busy, and I feel like we’ve mostly managed things on our own at home.”

“Yeah. But that’s why cooperating with each other became natural. On nights when Mom came home late, your fried rice was our dinner.”

“Haha, that brings back memories. Back then, we thought it was just normal.”

After reminiscing for a while, the two began discussing the diversity of Japanese families.

“Lately, I often see news about single-parent households or three-generation families. They’re different from our dual-income situation, but each has its own challenges.”

“But it’s not just about challenges—there are possibilities too,” Haruto said firmly. “For example, since we grew up watching our busy parents, we naturally learned to share household chores. That’s not a bad thing, right?”

Kanon nodded, jotting down notes. “Exactly. Every family has its own unique strengths. Discovering those strengths might be the true purpose of this Pair Test.”

The Pair Test Presentation
The two stood at the front, spreading out a large sheet of paper. On it were summaries of family diversity, the challenges each type of household faces, and proposals for solutions.

“We thought about roles and challenges based on our own family environment.”
“Our family is dual-income, and our parents are always busy. But that doesn’t mean it’s bad. On the contrary, it taught us to cooperate and support each other. Family environments come in many forms, but we should re-evaluate the strengths that emerge from them.”

They presented ideas for dividing chores in busy households and educational programs to help children become independent. Their poster was decorated with colorful illustrations and graphs they had drawn themselves, and their classmates listened with interest.

Finally, Kanon concluded:
“Family environments take many forms, but it’s important to discover the possibilities each family holds. We believe that every household has the strength to overcome its challenges.”

On the way home, walking along the road dyed by the setting sun, Haruto murmured:

“Through this test, I thought about our family again… and you know, it’s not so bad after all.”

“Yeah. Busy, but we really do support each other. Let’s talk to Mom and Dad about it.”

“Yeah. Let’s tell them about the strength our family has.”

Feeling the fragrance of fragrant olive swaying in the wind, the two continued walking with smiles. Through the Pair Test on family environments, their bond had deepened, clear and bright like the autumn sky.
