Sunway is a veteran singer, songwriter, and performer  from Hawaii.   She has been nominated for two Na Hoku Hanohano Awards and has released several albums of original music throughout her career.in Hawaii, Japan and Europe     Like any good songwriter, Sunway’s music shares her personal experiences and her viewpoints on heartache and new beginnings.  Sunway’s latest single is entitled “Storm” and features Zanuck Lindsey on guitar, and Arex  Ikehara  on bass.  It is produced by multi platinum producer and composer Joerg Alfter. “Storm”  can be found on all streaming platforms as well as on iTunes and YouTube.   You can find Sunway performing regularly in Waikiki at the LBLE Lounge at the Hilton Waikiki Hotel, as well as other popular venues around Honolulu.

Having shared her wild and sometimes hilariously funny life in public on the social media site for the last 7 years, Sunway has gained a large and loyal following long before the eagerly anticipated release of her last CD, "I'm Here."

It's this candidness that makes Sunway as unique as her name, and allows her to be open in her music and to deeply connect with her followers, friends, and fans.   She is able to relate to her audiences in a manner, that, whether onstage at venues in Honolulu, Japan, or Europe, through social media, or even on television (as when she was the nightly sidekick and guest host of the Hawaii television show "NighTime with Andy Bumatai”)  that invites people in.  

After performing as the opening act for two sold out Adam Lambert concerts in 2010, Hawaii Star Advertiser columnist John Berger wrote:

"It wasn’t the mocking applause opening acts often get when they announce that they are finally going to get off the stage and make way for the headliner act that everyone paid their money to see. Not this time.... When Sunway sang, they sang along with her. When she pointed the microphone their way the Blaisdell Concert Hall went choral. And when she indicated she wanted them to clap along, clap they did."

As a musician I have played drums with many different bands like The field, Too Many Goldfish and solo artist John McGlynn of Anúna fame. The stories and lyrics that were gathered on the journey and tucked away in my heart and soul, have tried to find a way out for 
years. Originally, poetry and metaphor were used as extensions to my fingertips to help shine a light into the unknown. One Second of silence (being a clear example) was originally written for, and recited to, the people of Omagh in 1998 as a poem of hope after the horrific bombing that took place there killing many innocent people. But now, these lived and listened too stories, mixed with my musical curiosity, have found a new home on my guitar strings inspiring the next part of life’s journey. So, by collaborating with a gifted set of musicians and producers my Seanachai (Gaelic for storyteller) was born. It feels like the right time to let the melodies inside take control of the stories. Based in Scotland, Sonia D is an Irish singer songwriter whose fingerstyle picking and melodies take their influence from Folk and Indie Folk music.

Sonia's acoustic based music contains thought provoking lyrics and emotive vocals intertwined with hints of piano and strings. With her haunting tones and honest expression she sings about her life experiences and hopes that her music resonates as a form of escapism or therapy to any who listen.

Growing up in Galway, Sonia started writing songs at the age of 10 immersed in the influence of artists such as Pete Yorn, Fiona Apple, Glen Hansard, Jeff Buckley, Heather Nova and Chantal Kreviazuk.

Today's influences number the likes of James Vincent McMorrow, Wallis Bird, Dodie, and Dermot Kennedy, whose music has inspired her to be brave in baring her soul through her art form.

Sonia loves to do live streams and plans to gig both locally and abroad. Currently focused on releasing singles, an E.P. and an Album are also in the pipeline.
