FREQUENCY UNDERGROUND INTERVIEW WITH SWITCH:

◾Real Name: Richard Wootton

◾Current city: Charleston, SC

◾DJ Collective: Frequency Underground

◾How did you come up with your dj name: I was about to play my first set in public and was asked what my artist alias was so they could get me on the poster. I hadn't really considered an alias too much yet, but I knew I didn't want to DJ under my full name of an offshoot of it. I was listening to a Bass House track at the time that called out 'SWITCH', just before the drop, and I just went with it. Short, sweet, and easy to remember. I found fairly quickly that my style of mixing and the name 'SWITCH' had become one, and it just stuck from there!

◾How and when did you get into djing: The first time I ever stood behind the decks was sometime in late November 2018 at Will Cothran's apartment just after he'd gotten his new DDJ-1000. He was having a gathering and told me I should give it a shot. I was immediately addicted and have been since and the rest is history!

◾Who are your musical influences and what is your inspiration: My biggest influences vary greatly depending on what I'm in the mood to listen to, as well as what I'm wanting to mix. For Bass House and House Music in general, the likes of Malaa, MASTERIA, Dr. Fresch, Marten Hörger, and ZHU have really always stood out to me. My other love is Progressive House and Trance, to which Above & Beyond, Ben Böhmer, and Cosmic Gate have always held a place in my heart.

◾Describe your sound as a DJ: I feel I have a somewhat signature style of Bass House mixed with Dark Tech House. I love super low lows coupled with banging 4/4's to create an instant party atmosphere. If I'm playing super late night or early morning, I'll go with a more Minimal or Progressive sound to suit the needs of the party.

◾What does the future hold in store for you as an artist: Currently playing out a couple shows in Asheville this month and looking to fill out the Spring and Summertime in NC and SC. Working on production a bit here and there, but it is still quite a long arduous process for me at this point as I'm not yet comfortable with Ableton and how it functions quite yet.
