Refusing to be pushed off the decks by the boys, Miss Match has risen fast through the ranks of a male-dominated industry to become one of Australia’s hottest and solidly entertaining female DJs. 

Playing within the popular genre HOUSE, her sets range from sexy Deep & Jackin’, Funky Vocal, Hard Electro right through to Tech House - where she is now most passionate & comfortable. This adaptability and enthusiasm behind the decks makes her incredibly accessible in any club.

Falling in love with house music years before she even picked up the headphones, it didn’t take long for the country girl to make the transition from fan to feature player, with residencies over the years at Sydney hot-spots Bungalow 8, Moulin Rouge, Le Panic, Arthouse, YU, Cherry Bar, The Bank Hotel and the Du5k & Penguin cruises - even appearing exclusively as the DJ for television’s “The Footy Show” throughout 2009. 

After just three years of being on the circuit, an overseas trip in 2007 led to her jumping on the decks in Tropicana, Paradise Club and Paradise Lounge Bar, which lead to a summer residency the following year in Mykonos. The icing on her international career was an invitation to play at London’s Ministry Of Sound in 2008, which was followed by gigs in Malaysia, Singapore, Bali and the USA, and a headlining gig for the “Feel Negumbo” Festival in Sri Lanka in 2010. 

Relocating from Sydney to Melbourne in January 2012, Miss Match has taken last year off to reflect on the career she had built in Sydney, have a break and determine where she wants to be in the Melbourne music scene. Focusing more now on the music she loves to play, she has secured a Sunday residency at the popular city bar Beer Deluxe for summer 2012/13, played the prestigious Portsea Polo event alongside Eric Powell & just recently headlined Underground Events Mardi Gras afterparty in Sydney.

Not content to stay behind the decks, Miss Match is involved in event management and music production. During Australia’s summer for the past decade she has run an intimate VIP yacht cruise ‘The Penguin’ in Sydney which  has seen her play alongside legendary DJs such as Andy Ward (Soul Central), Jeremy Healy (UK), Mistress Barbara, Groove Asassins (UK), The Potbelleez and Sean Doyle (Soul Heaven). Her latest event du5k is another intimate event focusing on great people and amazing Tech House DJ’s in Australia. Tech House is where Miss Match’s DJ’ing passion lies and thus the cruise du5k was created purely to follow this path.

Having started production in 2008 and her first track, Tarantism was first off the ranks, with Miss Georgia Brown (Australia) on vocals and scratch ensembles by the talented hip-hop group Blis’n’Eso. In 2009 her Progressive Tech House track Ophelia and three remixes by Boogie State, Craig Obey & Rave Radio, as well as Sydney’s Tech House guru Ben Kelly were all released on iTunes, Beatport, and Juno Download (UK). Her foray into music production has been received with open arms the world over, with some major labels catching Miss Match fever. 

2013 will see Miss Match introducing her Tech House talent in Melbourne, as well as keeping up gigs interstate & overseas.


Jumping Jack - The Austraian DJ



Jumping Jack has been a regular within the Australian dance scene for almost 25 years now. From playing raves as one half of the infamous ‘Flow Motion’ to super slick city clubs, the boy who played his first set at the now defunct Daily Planet Night Club in Sydney back in `91 has firmly cemented himself as a permanent feature of the club circuit.

Paul was first drawn into the dance world after going along to one of the huge indoor dance parties that used to be held in Sydney’s Horden Pavilion. It wasn’t long before he developed himself a cult following, having punters eager to get a hold of any mix tape he happened to release. His career saw him follow the rave scene from underground warehouse venues and backyard parties to big name clubs that decided to cash in on the hard sound, going wherever the music chose to take him.

Between his time behind the decks, his time as an instructor with DMC, co-producing trance radio shows and renovating his house, I thought that I would ask Paul what he feels could be improved in the Sydney scene. “I’d really love to see some new clubs opening up, Sydney does seem to be lacking in venues. Sydney needs a dedicated trance night where each DJ plays longer sets and it’s not so broken up throughout the night. Don’t get me wrong, I love variety, but just not that varied. Not one extreme to the other if you know what I mean. The night should flow probably starting with progressive trance and then building up throughout the night.” Since speaking with Paul, he recently headlined at the inaugural Trancetribe event in Sydney, which is undoubtedly the kind of ‘trance only’ event that Paul has in mind.

Paul’s time on the scene also means that he has seen fads come and go, as well as developing a strong feeling for where it is headed in the future. With many international DJs now openly admitting their dislike for vinyl and going towards CDs, I was keen to hear Paul weigh in on the debate. “The reason so many international DJs are so into CDs are because they get all the new stuff given to them on CD by the labels. For anyone starting out I believe that it’s best to learn the basics on turntables first. From there you can move into other areas, but learn the fundamentals first. Once you have learnt how to mix on turntables it’s really easy to mix using other methods.”

Having been a regular on the Australian scene for so long, and having his name billed alongside big names such as The Prodigy, Carl Cox and Sasha, are JJ’s fans’ in any danger of having their favourite DJ undergoing some sort of mid-DJ-life-crisis and maybe leave mixing behind for, I don’t know, investment banking perhaps? “I truly believe that I will still be spinning tunes for a while. I still love it and until I get sick of it, I can’t see myself giving it up. Hopefully I’ll have a few big tunes under my name as well as getting the opportunity to play overseas more often.”

In an industry that has new names coming and going every weekend in the hope of some quick fame, Paul’s long term dedication has seen him become one of the many rocks that has kept the Australian scene upright. He’ll no doubt be here to see it continue..

Thriving on a desire to share nu-disco to the house heroes, progressive to tech, he brings a buzz unique to every set delivered across Australia, Asia Miami, Mykonos and Balearic haven Ibiza.

For ARIA chart DJ Cadell, the inspiration came with the rise of Erick Morillo who took the house music scene over more than a decade ago. Firing off a winning vocal anthem with the deep and sultry shades of a tech-tainted tune, Cadell ignites a club every time he jumps on. Well respected across the Sydney electronic map, he has held the key to shows across the town supporting Laidback Luke, Calvin Harris, Thomas Gold, Roger Sanchez and Erick Morillo himself. iLLya is as energetic as he is enigmatic, tearing up mixes and destroying dance-floors with his unique and undeniable zeal behind the decks. iLLya has built a solid reputation as one of Sydney’s and Australia’s leading DJs and is a firm favourite with party goers, party-throwers, fellow dj’s and music makers alike!

For almost five years he played at Sydney clubbing institution ‘The Globe’ as a guest DJ at Switched On on Fridays nights and resident DJ at One on Saturdays. After three years he took over promotions with fellow resident, DJ Frenzie and started Fly, a successful Saturday night party which introduced Sydney to some of its favourite international names including Kaskade, Jay-J and Crazy Penis to name a few.

iLLya is widely known for his ability to take on any DJ he may come up against as he draws his audience in with an extreme passion that is truly captivating. Hence his unique sound is not just limited to the one style of music - he will cut up anything from house to break- beat to hip-hop and down-tempo through to disco, funk, a touch of soul and all the way back again but it is with 'house' music, that his true passion lies.

His record, music collection and jaw-dropping techniques on the turntables prove he is more than worthy of being one of the Top 10 DJs in Australia. It is iLLya’s reputation with the punters in Sydney alone, that really set him apart. In 2003, he scored the number 18 posit in the inthemix Australian Top 50 DJ Poll, 2004 he climbed the ranks to the Number 8 position, backed it up with the same ranking the following year and achieved this without the advised self promotion, stepping out of his own home town or releasing any mix cds or production unlike every other dj placed within the top 10. It was these rankings that saw the release of  iLLya’s first Mix CD, the first inthemix Australian Top 50  Double CD with Melbourne’s now legendary Boogs

iLLya has held residencies at Home, both in the main room as well as the exclusive VIP Terrace, at After Ours at YU, the seminal Sounds on Sunday at The Greenwood, Middlebar and of course The Globe, just to name a few, while also regularly playing at Monkey Tennis, Lady Lux, Tank nightclub and the rest..! He has featured on most local festival and main event line-ups, such as Vibes on a Summer’s Day, Parklife, the infamous Field Day and Harbourlife, Return to Rio, countless Ministry of Sound events and the list goes on and on, as well as continuously performing in melbourne and across Australia.

In 2004 iLLya added music production to the list when he got together with one of his like minded back2back DJ partners and closest friend, Toby Neal to form LAMANEX. It didn't take long before their music was being felt around the dance-floors all over the world, releasing eps on labels such as The Sound Republics, Spatula City Records and Matt Shrewd and Jay West's label, Flavors Recordings.
