Alan Fitzpatrick - We Do What We Want

2016 was a standout year for Alan Fitzpatrick, with the Drumcode stalwart racing out of the gates in spectacular fashion with the release of his fabric 87 mix. A substantial amount of high profile shows followed, including appearing at the inaugural Junction 2 festival and closing the car park to a packed-to-the-rafters-crowd at Drumcode Halloween. He returns to Drumcode with ‘Brian’s Proper Dun One’, marking his first appearance on the label since late 2016 when he remixed Moby’s seminal ‘Porcelain’.

The release opens with ‘Brian’s Proper Dun One’, a track which caused a Twitter meltdown on Alan’s profile when he first started playing it at the tail end of 2016. Loaded with sharp and pounding drums, this is an ethereal experience from start to finish and packs a real punch. It’s a no holds barred, certified main room anthem. ‘Wait A Second’ feat. mc r1bbz has been a staple of Adam Beyer’s sets of late and has been getting a lot of air time on Drumcode Radio. This rave inspired track takes a raw, stripped back approach and delivers a real killer blow. Alan sampled the vocals of mc r1bbz from an LTJ Bukem tape pack from the early 90s and the record tips its cap to early jungle raves around the M25. The release closes with ‘Trance, Init?’; A homage to Alan’s days first and foremost as a raver before he became a DJ, with his non-purist attitude when it comes to electronic music shining through. The breakdown is sure to be a hands in the air moment at festivals all over the globe this summer.

We Are The Brave front man Alan Fitzpatrick provides the labels next release with a typically incendiary two-tracker. Delving deep into his record collection for inspiration, the result is a brace of distinct, ear-catching cuts that tip a hat to by-gone times in rave culture and have returned big reactions from contemporary crowds all summer. 

The aptly titled “They All Called ‘Em Garys” combines droning hardcore hoovers and power piano with Fitzpatrick’s trademark heavy tech funk. While “Rhino” adopts a slung-back groove of resounding bass and tense pads overlaid with a knockout melody that bubbles away before unleashing its full chord progression through an unashamedly epic breakdown.

For many years, the trio consisting of Pedro, Muno and Defi have been around in the House Music scene in South America with their solo projects, and eventually joined forces to explore a more slow and organic sound. In their skillfully crafted productions they combine South American folk, downbeat and hypnotic synths into their own distinctive sound, which unfolds its compelling energy even more in their infectious live shows.

In „Le Fleur“, the opening arabesque Clarinet slowly entangles the bouncy groove, arpeggios burst like fresh buds until a conjuring synth line bring the tune into full bloom. Seems like spring was never gone!

An artist who found success with his "Alter Ego" in September 2018, Andre Sobota once again demonstrated his sizeable talent on Proton Music. Returning to the EP, "Held Over" now receives Particles remixes from the UK and Russia with a timely reminder of the original.

Entering a brave new world where his music "traverses a genreless music landscape", David Ridley has carved out a sizeable niche with a production style that combines ambient and electronica with progressive and deep house. Add a dash of techno and the whole gamut of underground dance music is represented within a unique approach to his craft under the We Are All Astronauts soubriquet. Forming a close relationship with Mango Alley, We Are All Astronauts has been a regular on the monthly Frisky Radio "Alleys Show". Ridley's work for Mango's label has been no less impressive with a score of production credits stretching over a five-year period that has seen a number of collaborations with Seawaves and a standout solo offering in "Cerulean Sky". Silk Music, Klangwelt and Visceral have also played host to the We Are All Astronauts sound while a pair of remixes for Lanvary in October 2016 and Sed Project in December 2017 saw impressive contributions for Particles. Now returning to remix "Held Over", sumptuous melodies with their roots firmly in Sobota's original, blossom into new and vibrant directions. A harmonically rich bassline pulsates gently in rasping, open filtered dynamism while shimmering arpeggios glisten across the mid-range with growing intensity as the track evolves. A rolling groove and driving beat add further to a magical new interpretation.

An advocate of "true progressive house" represented by John Digweed's Global Underground albums at the turn of the millennium, Anton Vishniakov has continued to chart his own successful path under the Rise and Fall moniker. A 2013 debut for Monster Deep quickly established him with support from Hernan Cattaneo, Max Graham, and Jerome Isma-Ae, while a double century of credits saw a reputation grow with almost half found on the renowned Bonzai Progressive. JOOF, Temporum and Clepsydra have also played a role in championing the Rise and Fall sound. Moreover, a clutch of releases for Particles saw appearances on the "Winter 2014" and "Fall 2016" compilations and "The Vision" and "Traffic Lights" turned in to full releases of their own. A trio of remixes for heavyweights Biologik, Derek Howell and Michael A has showcased a different skill set and it is pleasure to welcome back Rise and Fall with a driving dancefloor destroyer that is full of dark menace. Backed by a framework of heavy beat and high-energy off-beat percussion a seismic bassline rumbles across the low-end. Countered by textured pads a free-flowing lead line that makes its presence felt at the breakdown, the track explodes into the third movement with a glorious array of pulsating rhythm and melody that provides a new and unique spin on Sobota's track.

His productions have been played around the world in 2 years and he’s now going to sign his come back for 2019-2020. 
This is the first release before he comes back in the course of the year and as always, he uses his synthesizers with perfection. Clearly, emotion and sound design are the key words that define him the most.

Greg Gow is one of Canada’s most accomplished electronic musical talents with a growing presence and impact at home and across the world. He regularly brings his unique sound and performance excellence to premium venues across four continents. The award-winning producer and DJ consistently pushes the boundaries of his art, with his hypnotic sound, a skillful hybrid of soulful Detroit techno, marinated in the diverse flavors of his Toronto roots. 

There are haunting echoes in Greg’s music to the sounds of legendary world techno pioneers Derrick May, Kevin Sanderson, and Carl Craig, all of whom are his musical mentors and his abiding inspiration. Greg’s track “The Bridge” was instrumental in re-launching May’s iconic Transmat label, and his releases on Sanderson’s KMS took the techno world by storm at a pivotal time. Multiple collaborations have spread his penetrating sound to other leading labels, including Radioslave’s Rekids/ RSPX, Steve Bug’s Poker Flat, Christian Smith’s Tronic, Adam Beyer’s Truesoul, and Dubfire’s SCI+TEC.

Since 2001, Greg’s own label, Restructured Recordings, has pushed deep, funky,
driving melodic techno from artists such as Mateo Murphy, Samuel L Session, Ian
O’Donovan, and of course, Greg himself. For over three years he has produced and distributed a well-received monthly podcast series. This Is Modulations, features recordings of live sets as well as studio mixes.

Beyond his studio prowess, Greg is one of Canada’s most respected techno
ambassadors, regularly playing alongside other behemoths of dance music. He has starred from coast to coast in each of Canada, the United States and Mexico; from the top to the tip of South America; and widely across Europe and Asia. Global highlights include The BPM Festival; Output NYC; Movement Detroit; Movement Torino, Italy; Watergate Berlin, Ushuala, Ibiza; Club Space Miami; Creamfields, Dubai; and Club Air Tokyo; among many more. 

On his home turf, Greg has a residency at Toronto’s Vertigo, highlights at Montreal’s Stereo, and appears frequently at many of Canada’s premiere festivals like Electric Island. Greg’s track I Knew Techno, released on his Restructured Recordings label, won the 2023 Juno Award in the Underground Dance Single Of The Year category. These prestigious awards presented annually by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences to recognize outstanding national achievements in Canada’s music industry. 

With the help of Avid Artist Agency Greg Gow is now planning a world tour to celebrate his 20 years of ever evolving success and spread his vibrant Techno sound.
