Ian Champion, known as The Lizard King, formerly as DAL1ZARDK1NG, grew up in Southern Illinois listening to a broad variety of music in the psychedelic rock genre such as Animal Collective, Sparklehorse, and The Flaming Lips. When he turned 17, he learned a variety of instruments and started using GarageBand to record his own solo pop projects. 

Although that genre of music didn’t stick, an ASR X was gifted to him for his 19th birthday and after listening to J-Dilla’s donuts, the love of hip hop and sampling began. 

Taking influence from Dilla, 9th Wonder, Danger Mouse, The Alchemist, Daringer and Exile, he uses his MPC One to create a variety of different soulful beats mixed with experimental sounds and samples to create a sound all of his own.
