SCREAMING MALDINI - SUMMER, SOMEWHERE

In October this year, I was approached by the Music Ministries Unit, Salvation Army UK Territory, to write an arrangement for the next part of their regular journal, Scripture Based Songs.

For those of you who don't know, this is a journal of contemporary worship songs, arranged for brass band, to accompany the members of the church who will then sing the song. It's a fantastic worship tool, and I feel very honored to have been asked to write for this great journal.

And so here is my song, Praise is Rising (Hosanna) by Brenton Brown - Arranged for brass band with vocals in mind. I hope you enjoy it!

A Winter Fantasia

A piece for chamber orchestra, specially written for the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, in essence a condensed tone poem, it portrays the life cycle of a great oak tree, from the mighty parents to the tiniest seed in the earth, from the seedling soaking in the rain to the young sapling basking in the sun; All the way from the humblest of origins to a great tree in itself.

All of the material within the piece is derived from a central 'Oak Theme' which is intertwined with one of the oldest hymns known to us 'Praise God from whom all Blessings flow ("Old Hundreth")'; Let me know what you think of the storyline, it's material, and the effectiveness of he music to portray this.

Written as part of my paper composition module, in my final year at university, it is by far one of the most ambitious pieces I have written!

Here it is being performed live in workshop by the fantastic, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, a truly phenomenal ensemble, who were incredibly helpful and friendly throughout the workshop (not to mention, such amazing musicians!), who I am so grateful and thankful towards.
