When looking at techno artists emerging over the past few years it is hard to find any that are maintaining the seemingly unstoppable momentum of Alan Fitzpatrick. Hailing from Southampton the Drumcode mainstay and 8 Sided Dice boss has been winning plaudits across the globe for his constantly evolving brand of bass heavy techno. One such artist making similar strides within the world of electronic music is Portsmouth native and DT favourite Reset Robot who has quickly established a fierce reputation both in the DJ booth and the studio with the likes of Get Physical, Drumcode and Soma just a few of the imprints housing his talents in recent times.

Thus when we heard that Alan and Reset Robot were joining forces to to work under a collective moniker and start a new label together alongside Rhymos it's fair to say we were more than a little excited. Working under the name Customer, it's not the first time the pairing have hooked up, previously releasing tracks under a number of different pseudonyms but after hearing their latest work together as a duo on the 'Waiting' EP we certainly hope that it's not the last time they operate under the Customer alias.

Set to arrive May 25th as the sixth release for their burgeoning Whistleblower Records imprint, we're sure you'll be hearing plenty of the 'Waiting' EP when it lands next week so we thought we'd get in early and give you a taste of the EP ahead of its release as we nabbed its title track for exclusive premiere. It takes time for a series of seperate ideas to evolve into a fully concepteptualized album if it wants to have a place in history for Ali and Basti Schwarz, better known as Tiefschwarz. Since 1998 the duo, as both DJ's and producers, have perfected the art of dominating the moments only experienced on a dance floor, deeply immersed in sound. Their music is unique as it is creative. Among the countless extended players and remixes, the three landmark Tiefschwarz albums: "RAL 9005", "Eat Books" and "Chocolate" all have a common thread weaving them together; a historic vision uniting the musical crossroads of past and future. As with the previous albums, Tiefschwarz pause briefly on the subjective localization of artists in the (music) world to create an album which unfolds like a story told by master story tellers. Igniting the dance floor while at the same time giving the listener the opportunity to look beyond themselves and into the journey that is "Left".

With "Left", Tiefschwarz were able to radicalize the album-specific approach and focus more intently on combining grooves with an introspective perspective. They refrained to bring in an outside co-producer for the album and made sure to forego the cliche variety of guest musicians, concentrating instead on one congenial companion: Khan, who both Ali and Basti have been close friends with since the 90's. Khan, a Frankfurt native of Turkish and Finnish decent, is one of the most prominent and exhilarating German Techno pioneers. Since the early 90's, Khan has been looking to the future with his Bizz O.D. moniker or his demimonde project Captain Comatose in the 2000's when he blew up the club world with his brand of fierce theatrics, trash and outrageous hits. He has published on Harvest, accompanied Gus Gus on tour and held residencies from Mexico to New York to Berlin. His residencies also highlight his choice of musical programming: devilish eroticism, glamour, and a "do it yourself' approach as well as combining three distinctly amusing personalities: the classic crooner, the diva, and the cabaret star. Between Tiefschwarz and Khan, the project emotes an entirely new undertone of glamour weaving beats through a Hollywood of broken dreams.

Vertere - Mind Against & Somne

Constantly turning around itself, the winding melody of Vertere turns outward and inward at the same time, bringing the listener on a journey outward while mirroring a simultaneous labyrinthine journey inward. Like the word itself, Vertere, with its roots in the Latin word Verto (which itself takes its roots in the earlier Sanskrit word, Vartayati) it signifies the very nature of change itself. It means both to turn and reflect inward and yet also move forward — a call to action for setting in motion new things. A paradox at first glance but also perhaps a surprisingly accurate description of the destructive and reconstructive nature of creation. An apt metaphor for this bright new collaboration between established Life and Death artists Mind Against and the new artist project of Federico Maccherone, aka Somne.

On remix duties, when you have an artist of the caliber of Tobias Freund, you don’t need to ask for anything more and with his outstanding remix of Vertere he very clearly shows why. This long time mainstay of the electronic music scene has managed to stay not just relevant but on the cutting edge longer than most with respected releases on some of the most seminal imprints to be putting out music in the world of underground dance music. With Vertere he takes what’s already top quality material and somehow manages to turn it inward and in his own unique way elevate it to another level entirely. With a relentless beat and a sonic force that is hard to describe with mere words the Tobias. remix of Vertere comes out of the gate like a runaway machine rapturously drunk on its own self awareness. It marches ever forward, full of fervor, and will surely be driving dance floors both large and small to the euphoric edge of the ecstatic state.

Anton Pieete returns with a new selection of cuts for Rejected, following up December’s hugely successful ‘Galician’ EP. 

The raw, warm analogue sounds continue on his latest quartet as Chicago and Detroit influences are again combined with the now reknowned grooves of the Dutchman. Lead track ‘Teleporter’ eases us in with its delicate and playful keys, bongos and echoing vocal stabs. ‘Chemistry’, while kicking harder, still retains a regal deepness with its pulsing synths and catchy melody only broken but its rasping snares and glistening cymbal rides. 

Measured and refined, the EP continues by plunging us deeper still into the sensual delights of ‘Hundreds’. With a dreamy ambient flourish, the track never peaks and teases with its tender drums, that never fully surface. Anton signs off with a mercury raiser in ‘Arizona’. The drowsy bassline matches each beat to craft an addictive and hypnotic groove. A real heater to close yet another impressive EP from Mr. Pieete.

Gregor Tresher and Cocoon are linked by a long-time relationship which starts all the way back in 2004, when Sven Väth played Gregor's productions in heavy rotation. "Neon", "Full Range Madness", "The Now People" or "Still", just to name a few, can be considered as Techno classics of the Noughties. Almost ten years later, Gregor has established his position and is one of Germany's top notch techno producers. With "About A Good Place", he delivers his long overdue EP debut for Cocoon Recordings. He plays his favourite game straight to the point, with massive analogue synth lines, fat kick drums and hi hats that force you to move: This is adrenaline for the big floors on the planet, those with the real fat PAs!

The title tune "About A Good Place" is one of Sven's secret weapons in his recent sets and breathes Tresher-air XXL! It's all about that crazy, detuned synth line that grows bigger and bigger and results in pure harmony at the great breakdown in the middle of the track. The massive kick drum adds what you need to let the sun shine and wave your hands up in the air!
"Lifecycles" follows that vibe, but digs a bit deeper and adds more sensitivity to Tresher's Techno formula, with all the elements that we already know from "About A Good Place". Crazy arpeggio lines, filter moves and the mandatory dark bass line: hypnotic techno with no chance to escape!
Last but not least, there is "The Sun Sequencer" – the dignified answer to the preliminary techno bangers. More relaxed, with slight touches of House and Trance, "The Sun Sequencer" should be the right choice for fans of Chymera and Slam. Imagine the rising sun at an open air festival site or use this as your first tune for the next after hour – this is the sound of the summer of 2012.
