Julean Rai is the founder of the indie-folk band Julean and the Rai with a career spanning over 30 years.

The band -- previously known as AXIS, Julian Rai, and Avallon Rai -- has transformed many times and was a part of music scenes in cities across the US, Mexico, and Europe.

Founded in Dayton, Ohio in 1995, the band then moved to Colorado, Austin, Tucson, and New York City where they became part of the "Anti-folk" scene and established themselves as a standout act, alongside other NYC antifolk acts like  and . In 2008, the band went to Europe and were a huge success in Poland.

They returned to the US, living and performing in San Francisco, Tijuana, and San Diego before relocating to the music scene in Denver, Colorado.

Julean and the Rai have 12 live and studio releases, including the most recent release , and are remastering several albums for re-release in 2023. Julean is a talented artist with a dynamic voice, known for his passionate onstage vocal delivery. As a guitarist, known for his speed and rhythmic control, his delicate and versatile playing style swings wildly from soft and subtle to fast and breakneck. With nearly three decades of experience, Julean has honed his skills and developed a unique sound that sets him apart from other musicians.

Biography
Forage was started in early May of 2012.

Prior to this, Joe Lala and Josh Clark had first met when Josh auditioned for drums in a project called "The Pullouts" in 2010-2011. Josh got the job and the band continued to write new material and play the local club scene. Shortly after, Josh recommended his brother, Brandon Clark for recording sessions. The band decided to record a few tracks and that was the first time Brandon, Josh and Joe were all in the same room. While recording, Brandon shared a few albums of "TOWHEE" (Brandon's first project) with Joe.
The project had dismembered years prior. Joe later shared with Josh that he really liked the project and felt that it was "unfortunate" that it had broken up. Shortly after, Josh approached Joe and said, "my brother, Brandon is considering starting a new project and wanted to know if you would like to audition for bass." Joe agreed to schedule an audition and that is when FORAGE began.

Forage originally started out as a 4 piece with Towhee guitarist - Vallen Pool. 5 Lead guitarist later, Forage decided that Joe would inherit a keyboard rather than looking for a new lead guitarist. The band realized constantly finding and teaching new guitarist was really just holding them back opposed to pushing them forward. At this point the future of Forage was looking rather bleak and grim, but to everyone's surprise, the band felt the writing actually got better as 3 piece, cutting away all the "fluff" and frills. Not to mention getting rid of a full time job of finding and teaching guitar players all of the old material instead of continuing to grow and write new material.

Forage is currently working on their second album (title unknown) and predict it to be finished by early 2017.
