It is with unbridled glee that I finally get to share a (long overdue) first collab with our dear friend, and ambient artist extraordinaire, Jo (https://soundcloud.com/minimal_drone_grl, https://minimaldronegrl.bandcamp.com/). The results are quite exciting, to say the least. We hope you enjoy our sonic adventure, 'Flora's Beautiful Dream'. :)

And now for our little story...

The first signs of morning sunlight appear above the mountain’s rock covered peaks, as the Earth spins us around to witness the brilliance of another new day. Bright rays shine visibly through the morning mist, and dewdrops sparkle like diamonds among the tree leaves as the valley below slowly fills with warmth and light. 

Flora watches from her vantage point high above; witnessing her friends in the forest come alive to greet another day; and the people in the city streets down in the valley below come alive to serve another day. She’s watched this dance for many years; the forest remaining peaceful in its ancient perfection; the people below growing ever more unsatisfied as they strive for an illusionary and strangely unattainable perfection of their own.
	
This idea might sound sad to you and I. But over the years she has also seen miracles occur among us. From her vantage point she sees us like fields of energy; and the majority of that energy looks rather stagnant and mucky, like cesspools of unmoving water, unaware of the renewing stream we have been cut off from. But once in a while, an explosion of light energy will burst outward from a single house or apartment building, as someone becomes disenfranchised from their false identity, and their hearts open up to new ideas for the first time.

Surprisingly, these changes often occur after great loss. And she suspects this is due to the fragility of our illusion. She sees how lost we all are in these roles and characters we have built for ourselves, and she sees how quickly that false identity can shatter when we lose the things we prioritized the most. The loss of a relationship or loved one, a terminal illness in the body, the end of a career, a complete collapse in financial stability… when we lose the things we thought mattered most to us, some of us experience a miraculous opportunity for awakening to the truth that we were never those things to begin with. 

Flora lovingly watches the majority of us grow more sickly and stagnant with time. And she never loses hope… because every evening, she has the same beautiful dream.

But even brighter still are the explosions of light energy bathing the valley down below. After so many truly dark nights, many of us finally wake up the next morning to discover we were never all the things we lost in the night. In fact, we are something much larger. And as our energy explodes out, and the laws of attraction take hold, these simultaneous bursts prove to be strong and frequent enough to cause a chain reaction… and the whole valley lights up brighter than the sun itself. 

We have finally realized we are simply conscious life, and nothing more. And in our new found freedom from identity, we all begin again.

Flora slumbers peacefully, knowing full well… this dream will some day come true.

Since this track seems to be well received, I would like to share some secrets. I used the following for this:

Sonuscore - The Orchestra Complete 3. Here I loaded the instrument "Grand Piano Lid Closed" on its own sound track for the melody and staccato chords.

Spitfire Audio - Originals Epic Choir. As with the piano, I opened two instances and recorded separately on two sound tracks. On the first, the "ladies" sopranos & altos: short staccato syllables, and on the second, the men's tenor & basses: short staccato syllables. On both I experimented with different expressions and dynamics controlled by the modulation wheel via controller. The ladies are more dominant here.

Nexus 4 - Hollywood 2 Core Library. Here I loaded the Strings and Choir preset from the "Vocal/Choir" category. I adjusted the attack a bit to get a smoother sound. It supports the sung staccatos of the choir from Spitfire Audio as a soundscape.
Then, last but not least, I used Sonuscore's The Orchestra Complete 3 again for the horns and loaded the "Horns of Hell" preset. I reduced the internal reverb a bit for this and also worked with dynamics and expression via mod wheel here.

Since I am quite lazy when it comes to drum pattern programming: The drums and percussion are ready-made samples and come from KeepForest, HighLife and other sample forges.
All in all, there are six instrument tracks loaded here in FL Studio and three audio tracks. There's also an EQ, compressor, and delay and reverb on the master. That's it!

The spark that ignited this composition: Heart Of The Andes by Frederic Edwin Church....

"This painting was inspired by Church's second trip to South America in the spring of 1857. During his nine-week trip through Ecuador, Church made numerous sketches, and many surviving watercolors and drawings contain elements from this work. The painting was publicly unveiled on April 27, 1859, at Lyrique Hall, 756 Broadway, in New York. It was subsequently moved to the gallery of the Studio Building on Tenth Street and illuminated in a darkened room with gas jets hidden behind silver reflectors. The work caused a great sensation, and twelve to thirteen thousand people paid twenty-five cents each to see it each month. The painting was also shown in London, where it was also greatly admired."

QUICK STATUS UPDATE: I admit, my autistic brain is really struggling with the world lately. I'm all about people taking the high road; and treating each other with love and compassion. I also assumed government, religions and businesses ran on some form of humanitarian ethics. 

Needless to say, a disturbingly large part of the world and I aren't seeing eye to eye lately. And because of my recent adventures with sobriety, I initially determined I needed to stop doing things that mess with my mental well being (like supporting businesses that don't function properly, and don't support their customers). 

But let's face it... this weirdness is happening pretty much everywhere. And hermitting my way through the rest of my life is not a healthy or productive option. I'm a creator... I feel my greatest sense of purpose when I'm creating... and I enjoy being able to share those creations. 

It also helps make my life feel more purposeful, knowing my music and writings may be doing some good in the world (a huge thanks to my SC friends for messaging me your thoughts. You inspired me to rethink my choices).

So long story short, I decided to keep my SC subscription going. Granted, I still need some time to reimagine how I can connect with this community. But for now, I think I'll at least keep things were they are. And you'll be happy to know new songs are already in the works. :)
