Theo Parrish grew up on Chicago house parties. He went to art school in Kansas City, and then moved to Detroit. His eclectic DJ sets in Detroit in the late ’90s and early in this millennium are legendary. 

“Love of the music should be the driving force of any producer, performer or DJ. Everything else stems from that core, that love. With that love, sampling can become a tribute; An expansion on ideas long forgotten, reconstruction, collage. Using the same understanding openly and respectfully can turn DJing into a spiritual participation. It can turn a few hours of selection into essential history; Necessary listening through movement.” This personal philosophy gives shape and direction to the distinctive sounds that are created by Theo Parrish. With all four feet firmly grounded in the cultural heart of Romania's Bucharest, DJ and production duo Livio & Roby have emerged as the latest in a strong line of talents from the city's creative community. While much of the output from this inner circle of producers stays within it, maintaining a mystery that makes their unique sound all the more desirable, Livio & Roby's net has cast further than the city's limits; so much so they've forged alliances with Loco Dice's imperative Desolat imprint who released their debut album under their live moniker, Premiesku, which lead them onto a firm position on the international circuit.

With the pair making their Farringdon debut this coming Saturday, both as their DJ alliance, Livio & Roby, and their live project, Premiesku, they kindly recorded us a DJ mix to serve as evidence of their driving energy as a DJ duo. We also got the chance to chat on what they're about and how their home town scene has helped them develop.

Alessandro Adriani weaves a nightmarish scenario as the Mannequin man returns to Pinkman's Broken Dreams with four hardened works. Beats are shaven into rigid points as EBM echoes are speared with contemporary contempt. Throughout the quartet are moments of exotic abstraction, psychological stresses and visceral disorders. Music for sleepless nights and addled minds.

Solid Steel (22nd December) This week we welcome Lee Gamble, a producer and DJ of exploratory electronic/dance music, and owner of the UIQ label. From roots as a teenage DJ rinsing state-of-the-art jungle on pirate radio, Lee explored the mechanics and dimensions of computer music, avant composition and noise in the ’00s with a series of abstract, sculptural releases and live improvisational and multichannel presentations. He has released on labels like Entr'acte, Pan, UIQ and most recently Hyperdub for his album Mnestic Pressure. He told us;
"It's really the kind of way i'd play in clubs, festivals whatever.. I have my NTS show monthly, so i don't really repeat what i do there each month, so it's different and it's in the afternoon on a Thursday. But, this mix is made with a lot of material this sits in the playlists i've been using when playing out over the past year. So, yeh, it's closer to me mixing live than how i do on the radio on a Thursday afternoon"
