A minimum viable product (MVP) is a version of a product with just enough features to be usable by early customers who can then provide feedback for future product development (Wikipedia).

So, in my opinion, create a procedure/methodology that allows you to create/test something that will naturally be developed further with future steps.

And, therefore, what is the simplest/most comfortable and most relevant starting point to create this path?

In my case:
1) start working with samples and various granular samplers (Frame 2 and Frame 3, by Peter Dines, in Reaktor eg.)
2) always working in a heterodox way, use stochastic/random midi generators to obtain a score, which can be used as it is, or distributed among various instruments / sounds. Of course the choice of instruments in this case is crucial, since we are not within a precise and codified musical form.

This is the method I used for this track.

The Drunken Flight Of A Butterfly Under A Warm Autumn Sun

This song started with Kuba, my Polish friend, sending me a song idea, where he was playing guitar and singing in English. To that, I added bass, slide, mandolin, and piano. I also rewrote the lyrics to give them a better sounding English flow, then sang the high and low harmonies, too. It changed from a song about "waiting for the mountain dew," to "when you dance, the skies are blue." 
  I like finding public domain common melodies in songs, too, so if you pay close attention to the slide, you'll hear me quoting Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in there. 
  I really like Kuba's song ideas and our process together. Speaking of people with whom I like to work, I asked Tez (Llanpsych) to produce and mix the whole thing, even though his instrumental skills are absent from the song. 
  I was going for a European village folk song feel for this one. Hope you enjoy our love song.

than a remix. although some of the original stems are in use I re played most of the other instruments and completely reorganized the end sections adding an acoustic guitar etc , One of my favorite vocals with Jaime as well , she let go quite a bit for her improv... just love it!

[I wrote this song a long time ago, back in the ‘80s when I was living in London and signed up to EMI... it was not a ‘suitable’ song for recording back then... heh, no hooks and a loose groove..  but I unearthed it the other day and it just seemed to flow in my own wee studio.  It’s virtually all acoustic, with a light layer of synth... and a few sonic gaps filled here and there...   I played my upright piano and blended that together with the vst piano, kicked a few bottles around and then pretended my poor cello was a jazzy bass...  it gave me a great blister to play it that way!   

It feels like quite a journey, to remember this song from back in another very different part of my life and now to re-claim it... as all my own work.    :-)]
