Some words from Ministry Of Sound: 

Ministry of Sound has partnered with Nissan to create the world's ultimate mobile sound system - the JUKE Box. Louder than a jumbo jet in take-off, the technical know-how for the JUKE Box comes from sound experts Martin Audio, who designed and built the current system in The Box - the main room at our London home.

Building on the Ministry of Sound ethos of 'creating the moments people live for', together with Nissan we turned to Martin Audio to create a 150 decibel, 18,900W sound system, which is completely self-sufficient in terms of power and production. Thanks to its custom-built 19 kilowatt rig, the JUKE Box's sound system fits into a standard Nissan JUKE. A set of custom-made cabinets and enclosures housing two 18inch powered sub units and the same Mid Hi enclosures that are used at Ministry of Sound enable exceptionally loud output without compromising on sound quality.

This is the first in a 2-part webisode below created to coincide with the Juke's debut at Le Mans 24 hour endurance race in June 2012, giving you a behind the scenes look at the JUKE Box coming to life - from invention through to realisation.

After debuting with Tic Toc Tic in 2009, The Zolas scaled the precipice of cult status across Canada, thanks to a loyal fanbase carried over from Zach Gray (vocals, guitar) and Tom Dobrzanski’s (piano) earlier years as Lotus Child.
With Ancient Mars, their second album, The Zolas are set to continue their legacy of postmodern pop. Armed with poetic lyrics, Ancient Mars trades in the cabaret glitz of Tic Toc Tic for reverbed pianos and hard, minimalist beats.
In “Strange Girl” a sunny guitar riff blasts into the perfect mid-‘90s summer jam, while title track “Ancient Mars” is bouncy and nostalgic, with heaping spoonfuls of Montreal and Brooklyn avant-pop. If John Lennon and Kanye West met later tonight at a hotel bar, “Escape Artist” is the song they would write. It’s these kinds of pairings that Ancient Mars is full of: The Zolas write classic pop songs and then fuck them up until the hooks have to fight to get out.
As if to offset Ancient Mars’ aesthetic diversity, the lyrics are raw and focused. The Zolas’ tumultuous songwriting captures the zeitgeist of being in your 20s, on the cusp of youth and real adulthood. In each song Gray builds a skeleton of a setting – from outer space to a college library to a Victorian jail cell – and tells stories fleshed out with the listener’s own history.
In October, The Zolas teamed up with Winnipeg’s The Liptonians to release a 7” split single “Cultured Man”, a quixotic snack in between the two full-length albums.
Dobrzanski is the band’s on-board producer, having worked with names in indie-rock royalty like Said the Whale and We Are The City, but for Ancient Mars production duties were handed over to Chuck Brody (Phantogram, Wu-Tang), much like how 2009’s Tic Toc Tic was produced by Howard Redekopp (Mother Mother, The New Pornographers).

Mad Liberation is a collection of songs that I have been working on for the past year that ranged from mostly original compositions to varied sample work (retro vinyl recordings and new all original recordings); digital synthesis that took me weeks to master; to live instrumentation tediously and soulfully recorded by myself and some of my very good friends. 

This collection of noise - to me - became an album, a sound in a whole, an idea free from limits of thought and more an idea of the heart and soul. Mad Liberation is a piece of me that is representative of my past, breathes life into my present, and is a taste of the future. 

I don't have fancy recording equipment, amazing speakers, crazy keyboards, complicated sample packs, proper studio time, cutting edge midi controllers, or outboard mixing gear. 

What I do have is an endless imagination of the future/now, unrelenting will, constant fascination, and a heart that has no capacity to stop loving and trying. 

This business - when you boil it down - is not about the machine, but about the man. Even electronic music is humanistic. We breath life into these dead things to make them whisper and ROAR!! I am inspired by that fact, and this is what sets me free.

Seven months ago the band Lemonade shared with the world their song "Neptune". It's a wonderful pop song, with wonderful melodies and connectable / perfect lyrics. As I tend to do with most songs I hear and love. I covered it, as an exercise usually only for myself, but this time I sent it to the band.
At the time I loved the lyrics, but right now seven months later... i fully appreciate the lyrics, so in the absence of new Blood Orange materiel... here it is.

In collaboration with Ukraine's Old Captain label, we present a special re-issue of Vestigial's two first EPs, Solar and Aeon with exclusive additional tracks. The Italian project points to a dichotomous vestige of man's biological evolution relating to the degeneration of civilization, where a society enslaved to progress can only lead to a completely meaningless existence. Vestigial's first output was the "Aeon" EP released in 2007 and had caused quite a stir in the Dark Ambient scene on its release for the sheer power and craftsman's shift it contained, where slow burning atmospheres are offset by the occasional harsh outbursts of noise and crackles and underpinned by heavily processed voices. The "Solar" EP was released in 2009 and presented a rawer vision of Vestigial where Death Industrial sonorities collide with intricate ambient passages. Both EPs are very impressive pieces of Dark Ambient and we are pleased to make them available once again.
