멋지게 휘몰아치는 파도처럼 노래하는 아티스트들이 너무나도 대단해 보였습니다. ‘나는 왜 그럴 수 없을까?’라는 생각을 하며 자책하다가 나도 그들처럼 대담하게 노래하는 용기를 가지고 싶었습니다. 이 노래를 부르는 순간만큼은 나도 그렇게 될 거라는 믿음을 가지고 나 자신에게 용기를 주기 위해 만든 곡입니다.

마음을 쓰고 진심으로 내 모든 걸 다 내어준 사람에게 실망하게 된 이후로 나 자신을 방어하기 위해 표면적으로 사람들을 대하기 시작했습니다. 그저 사랑을 원했고 설령 상처를 주는 진실이래도 진정성 있길 바랄 뿐이었습니다. 결국 언젠가는 사람에게 실망하게 될지도 모른다는 두려움에 내 본래의 성격대로 행동하지 못함에서 오는 답답한 느낌들을 적어 내려간 곡입니다.
