Just as we thought we reached the tipping point of the pandemic, things turned around and the city of Berlin closed its clubs or prohibited dancing at the very least. We could put our heads in the sand (or snow) and let negative emotions guide us .. or we can use this time to take another compulsary break and get creative. To help all of you get through December, we invited buddy and creative mind Horkheimer for a hour of deep & atmospheric tunes.

Born in 1988, music in a diverse array of forms was an enduring backdrop for Horkheimer’s youth. It all started by listening to punk rock, while years of riding bmx and continued in the early 2000’s with various rap and hip hop tunes. Horkheimer started to get into the electronic music thing through his former roommate, who introduced him to house and techno music and showed him the way into deejaying.

Horkheimer is spanning a wide-range style of techno in his Dj-sets, from dub and deep to hi-hat-driven grooves or even spaced-out electronica. DJing took him from Frankfurts AMP Bar, Offenbachs Robert Johnson, IFZ, Staub at Berlins ://about blank to New Yorks Bossa Nova Civic Club. Besides DJing Horkheimer is also one part of the duo Форм with Aleksei Maier, whose first release came via 2020 released Lifesaver 4 Compilation on Live at Robert Johnson and a few more to be out in a not so far future.

In 2018 he founded Klinika Musik in cooperation with photographer and graphic designer Florian David and came up with its first release. The label is focused on the darker side of electronic music and open to a variety of different styles.

In January 2020 Horkheimer started working as A/R for Live at Robert Johnson, the in-house label of the well-known Offenbach nightclub in cooperation with Ata.

For Loser Records Horkheimer compressed a full club night into this 1 hour set. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and the dancfloor is all yours.

The Jena joker turns in an eclectic mix of hip-hop, pop, chill wave and more.

Delicacy is not necessarily an adjective you'd attach to Robag Wruhme if you saw him behind the decks. Either solo or in tandem with Sören Bodner as the now defunct Wighnomy Brothers, Wruhme has gained a reputation for his boisterous, hard-drinking DJ sets. But scratch the surface of his recorded music, and in particular his recently released Thora Vukk LP for Pampa, and a whole microcosm of elegance and grace is there to enjoy. Wruhme was the production brains behind the Wighnomy Brothers, who from their hometown base of Jena in the east of Germany put out a string of leftfield house and techno releases through Freude Am Tanzen until their split at the end of 2009. During that time they also proffered a seminal mix CD in the form of Metawuffmischfelge, a feat Schablitzki followed up on earlier this year with his excellent Wuppdeckmischmampflow for Kompakt. 

Much like his latest full-length, Wruhme has only minor dance floor considerations on his mind for this mix—hip-hop, pop, chillwave, spoken-word and (of course) bags of oddities are much more the order of the day.

How and where was the mix recorded? 

In Jena in my bedroom and in my kitchen, with a turntable, apples and a lot of vinyl and CDs. 

Can you tell us a little bit more about the idea behind the mix?

"Good Morning" was and is the idea ... I hope I can share that.

What are you up to next?

I have to work in my own car wash centre and then I will bring out the vegetables in my garden... it's April!

ItaloJohnson operate a zero bullshit policy. An uncomplicated musical vision that rests on preserving intimacy, sociality and space in the club, the faceless trio have been making a name for themselves since 2010 with a series of hand-stamped 12” releases showcasing their timeless house sound.

The collective expanded on their no-frills musical vision in our recent feature with them. Off key fondue parties and records "handstamped by virgins" aside, guiding the three is an underlying imperative to make decisions for the right reasons: their anonymity nothing more than a method that works well for them, something that relies on a sociality that the internet has effectively negated over the years. One of our favourites ever since her glorious Olganitz debut in 2014, our final edition couldn't go down without @olivia-ungaro of course. She played two sets in one night: After opening our Ambient Stage on Friday evening, she played this storm of dance set at our Tent Stage a few hours later. As classy as ever.
