Ruby Tuesday

Here in the tiller flat you have – yes, you guessed it - the tiller; that’s the big timber beam that is connected to the whipstaff above us in the main cabin, and to the rudder at the rear of the hull. All integral for steering the ship.  Look closely and you will see coils of rope on the ends of two beams – these cushions govern how far the tiller will go when it is moved from to side to side. 

This area houses two “stern chasers”.  Unlike side facing cannons these point backwards and would be used to ward off an enemy that was in pursuit.  We will hear more about cannons when we go back up on deck.
With easy, yet sheltered access to the main cabin, the tiller flat was also used to store provisions. However, as you may notice there is no modern refrigeration, and food didn’t last long.  To overcome that problem they would salt, dry and pickle goods; things such as salted meats, dried and salted fish and pickled vegetables, cheeses, and of course the rock-hard ship’s biscuits or hardtack, which could break a tooth if not soaked properly before eating. 

It was also important to stop regularly at ports along the way, to restock fresh fruit and vegetables, to ensure that sailors maintained their intake of vitamin C to keep the dreaded scurvy at bay. 

There was of course beer, wine and spirits stored on board; and water - which would be caught and stored in barrels when it rained.

Duyfken Audio Tour - Tiller Flat

This song was based on a tape made at John Lennon's 31st Birthday Party in a Syracuse, NY hotel room.  Where John and Yoko were joined by Ringo and Maureen, Klaus Voorman, Allen Ginsberg, Jim Keltner, Mal Evans, Neil Aspinall and Eric Clapton.  The original indistinct underlying recording of 'Tandoori Chicken' was made on the 9th October 1971.  It was de-noised and normalised where the 'clean track' has had other instruments - Rhythm Guitar, 12-String, Bass & Goblet Drum added.  My first burst into a 'meaty accompaniment' with such esteemed company.  'Hope that you enjoy it?  :-R

Satellite

The first remix heavier on the Bass & Ukulele, inspired by chords on 'The Break's' kid's blackboard (March 2012) to write something new that's been rocking around in my head.  I suspect, it's like a plug to 'what lies beneath'. I turned the major and minor approaches by 'The Break' on their head and used "The Amazing Chord Gizmo" to assist in '...welding the loose-ends'.

Redrust

'A haunting' song...  A foolish arrangement of 'The Cure's' song of the same name, from 1992.  No supernatural themes here... not!  Embraced by 'six legs', when 'two', would do.  Although, it all sounds 'very temporary'.  'Life that is!  
I trust that you'll find this as eerie as I did?
