The Aeolian Harp (also called Wind Harp) is a string instrument that is played by natural wind. It sounds like layered feedback or drones with rich harmonic textures that will change continuously according to the wind direction, strength and consistency. One day, I bought the materials at the local DIY store and built a small Aeolian Harp. I brought the harp outside on windy days, but it made no sound at all. Through trial and error, by altering the string materials, tension, and the angle against the wind, it finally produced a sound.

The harp resonates with the surrounding environment, changing from place to place. I put two lavalier microphones into each of its two holes to clearly record the tiny resonant sounds, without too much wind interference. What is intriguing to me is that the recording will inevitably include environmental sounds from near and far which are condensed and slightly modulated by the harp. In a way, I use the harp as a kind of transducer as well as sounding body to interact with the environment through the forces of the wind. The recordings themselves are ecological, meteorological and geomorphological observations at a certain time and place.

Yvan Etienne has developed a work which takes shape as “things” made of sound. Designed like spaces, moments to experiment, his work is generally linked to certain contexts, climates induced by the specificity of sites and/or by invested materials. Made with electronic and acoustic instruments, his arrangements explore the processes and the states of sonar perception. As extension of his research, he co-directs the “Oh cet écho” series at Presses du Réel and teaches the sound practice and intermedia at HEAR.

極寒音楽祭 the Extremely Cold Music Festival January 16, 2021（Live）

The first time Stijn Huwels and Cok van Vuuren collaborated with Michel Banabila was in April 2020. They made an extremely peaceful 12-minute track in reaction to all the stress in the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to soothe some of the stress and calm you down. The track was picked up by Apple Music and added to one of their playlists, resulting in over 655.000 streams in just a few months, still increasing to this day: https://soundcloud.com/michel-banabila/one-moment-in-time

'Across The Sky' is their second collaboration, maintaining a positive vibe, this time with a little more emphasis on rhythm. Droney synths and imaginative electronics are mixed with space guitars, all infused with analog elusive layers of tape echo and reverb.
