In Heart Full of Love, the second single form ÌFÉ’s soon to be released sophomore album 0000+0000 (pronounce Yay-Koon May-yee), the New Orleans based electronic artist reworks The Invincibles' 1960’s rare groove ballad into a psychedelic Afro-Cuban lamento, reminding us that in the midst of the stress and struggle, love still rules. With rolling synths and pianos, melodic 808’s, the lush guitar work of Yoruban collaborator Saint Ezekiel, and the ghostly background vocals of Polish American singer Lavoski,  ÌFÉ transforms this 60’s era affair into an entrancing electronic love song that moves ultra modern while staying firmly rooted to it’s folkloric building blocks. Of the song’s subject matter, ÌFÉ says, “over the last few years, as my everyday life became increasingly political, I struggled with how to reconcile the type of mindset that knows that Fuck The Police is right message, even though I don’t have room for hate in my heart. Hearing the Invincibles sing about having love in their hearts, even though others may not see it so easily, resonated with me. Embracing radical love means that we can’t support the institutions that work at the expense of others, like the military, like empire, capitol punishment, the prison industrial complex, and the police. El último año Cerrero ha dedicado gran parte de su tiempo a la producción musical y dirección artística de Discos Pacífico, el nuevo sello de Llorona Records que ha presentado discos tan poderosos como Voy pa´allá de Semblanzas del Río Guapi, Batea de Bejuco y Berejú de Agrupación Changó. Discos Pacífico ha sido también la oportunidad de descubrir nuevas voces y artistas  para seguir experimentando y creando en el universo del productor colombiano. 

Chureito en la mañana, colaboración entre Cerrero y el grupo de Tumaco Bejuco, es la primera entrega de una serie de canciones que, desde el sonido crudo y minimalista del dub electrónico del proyecto solista del fundador de Llorona Records, nos lleva al lado más intimo de lo que ha sido la experiencia de inmersión en los sonidos de la costa del Pacífico sur de Colombia para Cerrero. 

El “Chureo” es parte esencial en la forma de cantar en Tumaco, un legado del África primitiva que solo sobrevivió en los lugares más apartados de Nariño.  Una melodía muy corta, percutiva y arcaica, cómo el canto del pájaro o de una chicharra en la selva, un llamado, un lamento. Cada cantante aporta su “Chureo” que al sobreponerse en una polifonía sublime se transforma en el trance que lleva la música al plano más espiritual y profundo. 

La canción inspirada en esta tradición, pero también en el zouk del Caribe antillano y los afrobeats que se toman los barrios de Tumaco, nos presenta la voz prodigiosa de William Martinez, cantante de Bejuco, y el encuentro creativo de Cerrero con “Cankita” músico, compositor emblema de la nueva generación de artistas de la región.

For this our sixth Botanas single series we have the pleasure to present two stunning original tracks and one beautiful edit from Canadian producer Oonga (who you might have spotted on our Mare Insularum compilation). Oonga is a DJ/producer from Montreal who works with Stonetree Records. 

Opener El Caracol is one of the most personal tracks the artist has ever made. It is based on a poem written by Eli´s (Oonga) dad and dedicated to him. It was written after the two of them had a really deep conversation about hidden pain and then months later his dad showed him the words, and he was extremely moved and so created this beautiful track. 

This inspiration came at the same time as Oonga's exposure to the neo-folkloric slow cumbia tech sound while travelling. He put the two together and this special Botanas was born. His dear friend Ana adapted the words into Spanish and sang the melodies (as well as doing the art). 

Oonga´s music captured our ears right away and these three tracks are the perfect soundtrack to the end of the summer for those of us in the norther hemisphere or to welcome the end of the Winter and brighter times for all those down south!
