In Heart Full of Love, the second single form ÌFÉ’s soon to be released sophomore album 0000+0000 (pronounce Yay-Koon May-yee), the New Orleans based electronic artist reworks The Invincibles' 1960’s rare groove ballad into a psychedelic Afro-Cuban lamento, reminding us that in the midst of the stress and struggle, love still rules. With rolling synths and pianos, melodic 808’s, the lush guitar work of Yoruban collaborator Saint Ezekiel, and the ghostly background vocals of Polish American singer Lavoski,  ÌFÉ transforms this 60’s era affair into an entrancing electronic love song that moves ultra modern while staying firmly rooted to it’s folkloric building blocks. Of the song’s subject matter, ÌFÉ says, “over the last few years, as my everyday life became increasingly political, I struggled with how to reconcile the type of mindset that knows that Fuck The Police is right message, even though I don’t have room for hate in my heart. Hearing the Invincibles sing about having love in their hearts, even though others may not see it so easily, resonated with me. Embracing radical love means that we can’t support the institutions that work at the expense of others, like the military, like empire, capitol punishment, the prison industrial complex, and the police. HEART FULL OF LOVE

The album's lead single is "Fake Blood" and features the Paris-based Congolese artist Robby The Lord. The song "Fake Blood" was initially inspired by America's reaction to the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting and the Adam Curtis documentary "HyperNormalisation." “Gun violence is so rampant and mass shootings so common that the reaction to each new shooting seems somehow more bizarre and absurd than the last," says Otura Mun aka ÌFÉ. "The solution to the problem is obvious - yet nothing will change because the political discourse is devoid of any real honesty or sense of personal responsibility for the horrors we have created past and present."

This version has been cut as the B-side to the soon to be released 10" Vinyl pressing of ÌFÉ's breakthrough single. Done in a traditional rumba style, this stripped down "raw" version get's to the heart of ÌFÉ's Cuban influences, showing the groups mastery of the classic form in perfect juxtaposition with it's genre breaking electronic A-Side.

At times tender, at other moments seductive and flirtatious, the song is an invitation / an offering to those forces that walk among us and a reminder that life is nothing if not a constant act of giving to receive.

ÌFÉ's latest single, Umbo (Come Down), is a musical invitation to the benevolent forces that be. Drawing from rhythms and incantations of sacred Yoruba praise songs, ÌFÉ calls out to those would would hear us in our times of need. Keenly aware that our most potent gods, and loves, are first met dancing, and we take our plunges from there. Part celebration, part adoration, Umbo beckons us into that space between places, where we can let go and be brought to shore.

ÌFÉ is a bold new musical project from Puerto Rico polymath Otura Mun. Mun, an Ifá priest or 'Babalawo' in the Yoruba religion, has been at the vanguard of the Puerto Rican music scene since arriving from Indiana US in the late 1990s, producing critically acclaimed albums and songs for many of the island's most important musical voices, including Mima, Cultura Profetica and Calma Carmona.  ÌFÉ is his first solo project.

VOODOO ECONOMICS (WolfMan), the second single off of ÌFÉ's forthcoming sophomore album moves as a modern day funeral song, written as a lament for Adolf Wolfgang Siemon-Otero, a beloved friend and musician gunned down in the streets of San Juan Puerto Rico, the target of a drug trafficking dispute.  The song, built around sacred Afro Cuban Bata rhythms and prayers plays a powerful procession, honoring those that have fallen while stirring up a cache of questions, principally among them, why do we want so badly to be rich?  And what does right and wrong ultimately mean in a society that judges us more on our outcomes than our methods?

ÌFÉ performs Bad Bunny’s “Estamos Bien” in a Rumba style while in quarantine at their studio ILÉ ÌFÉ in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The song features ÌFÉ producer and front man Otura Mun and the project's newest voice, Lavoski.


“Before the quarantine Lavoski and I had been putting together a straight ahead Rumba project to sort of keep our chops up. She came into one of the rehearsals singing this song and I loved the way it sounded in Rumba. One thing led to the next and before we knew it we were all in quarantine at home and our rumba sessions at the house became impossible for the health reasons everyone is aware of at this point. After resisting several offers to play in virtual form I got an offer that made sense for us to do as a duet. So as I was thinking about what Lavoski and I could do together I remembered the Bad Bunny tune and suggested we put it together for fun. I pre-recorded all the conga and percussion parts myself at home and Lavoski and our good friend Andrea Beltran laid the background vocals at her house, then we got together to perform her lead vocal and my lead drum together. It was the first time I’d been near another human being in 4 months. This song and video was the closing number of our performance at IBA’s virtual Tito Puente Concert Series 2020...  more
