This is the first electronic track I ever worked on. It was created by Peabody, Peter X and myself in 1993 on an Amiga computer in .MOD format.

This is where my producing cherry was officially popped!

In the 90's i used the name "lowkey" for my electronic productions. I didn't start using the name GUAPO until the year 2000. One night while I was dj'ing the Mexican woman I was dating at the time said "Ah que DJ guapo!". And it was a lightning strike of satori! The perfect artist name!

I produced this song for a feature film about swingers clubs. It was for the orgy scene. Im quite proud of how I made the breakdown using the moaning sounds, pitching up individual moans synchronized to the drum hits! For those who don't speak french "Tendre Mensonge" means a tender seductive lie.

Somnambulist (Dirty Catwoman Remix)

I made this remix for the original score to the feature film PURE for a scnee dealing with death & rebirth. Originally i wanted to license a Cheb I Sabbah song but the deal fell through. So with two weeks left before the sound mix of the film I decided to remix a song by a similar artist. 

Andrew from Interchill Records hooked me up with Wadada from Suns of Arqa. Little did I know at the time that Suns of Arqa were the pioneers of world beat, the first to combine Indian Raga with Dub & Electronic music! Based in Manchester UK they have been at the forefront of the genre since 1979!

Wadada loved the remix and we began collaborating. I ended up joining the band and I produced songs on many of their albums. I performed with them at Glastonbury Festival and at the Telerama Dub Festival in Paris. I even brought them to my hometown of Montreal to perform at a festival.

For this remix I took the recording of the flute of bansuri master Ragunath Seth from Mumbai and built a song around it. I enlisted the incredible talented Geeta Sparkle to sing overtop and she blew me away with the power and emotion of her performance. We created this song together over the course of a week and it remains my favorite song I ever produced!

Interesting production note : I did not use any synths in this remix. All those waves of sounds were made using my guitar and FX pedals.

The remix was featured in the climax of the film PURE and on the film's soundtrack CD. It was featured on the Suns of Arqa album "Hallucinasia". Plus I enlisted immersive video projection pioneers Moment Factory to create a music video that was featured on the Suns of Aqra DVD release "Hindu Pict".

Cosmic Jugabandi (GUAPO's Chill Remix feat. GEETA SPARKLE)

This is the more upbeat club version of my remix of Suns of Arqa "Cosmic Jugalbandi".

The original track was recorded at the legendary Real World Studios in Wiltshire, UK. It features bansuri master Ragunath Seth from Mumbai on the flute.

I remixed this song in 2005 for the original score to the film PURE. I enlisted the incredibly talented Geeta Sparkle and her mesmerizing vocals soar overtop.

The original version of the remix is rater mellow, a chillout version. The only beats are from the tablas. So I decided to add some programmed beats & some synths and make an upbeat club version.

As the Composer & Music Supervisor of the film PURE I also curated the soundtrack CD and released it on my label Finite Records. I made a DJ mix of the songs from the film and it includes artists like Ian Pooley, Misstress Barbara, Chromeo, LSG, Max Graham, Quicksound, Chris Brann etc...

Cosmic Jugabandi (Guapo's Club Mix feat. Geeta Sparkle)

This was the second time I performed live with Suns of Arqa. We were co-headlining the festival with dub icon Adrian Sherwood of On U Sound. Who had produced the first SOA album back in 1979!

I flew to Paris from my home town of Montreal and we had two days of rehearsals at a studio. As the only band member fluent in both English & French I took on the role of translator between the band and towards the festival.

The concert went incredibly well. The highlight for me was the song Michel Ki Malhar due to the Qawali vocals & Swar Mandal playing of Gimesh Guay. His performance gave me chills and the entire audience was mesmerized in a deep trance.

After about 10 minutes his voice needed a break and he motioned to me to take over and play a solo. So I got to play a trippy  atmospheric guitar fx soundscape solo! The first and only time I did that with SOA!

Adrian Sherwood's performance with vocalist Brother Culture was mind blowing. He was working a 24 channel mixing board like a DJ mixer. Dubbing up the stems of his legendary On-U Sound studio sessions featuring the best reggae artists in the world. What an honor it was to share the stage with him!

After the concert we went for a meal and the streets were flooded with football fans from the Champions League final between Arsenal & Barcelona. During our entire meal at this massive after hours restaurant the rival fans were locked in a singing contest, shouting their team's songs and chants at each other. It was hilariously surreal!

The festival was top notch, run very professionally by friendly staff. I got to meet & hang out with dub bands like Nucleus Roots and Zion Train who I had been fans of years. 

Although we did have one funny moment with the staff. Wadada & I went to the venue in the daytime on the last day of the festival to pick up some of the stage props. And we found a cache of unsold SOA merch that had appeared out of nowhere. As we loaded it up to take it with us, the staff called security thinking we were thieves!

We had to prove we were the band and it was our merch! Luckily there were videos online of the concert from a few days before and an interview with Wadada!

Michel-Ki-Malhar

This is by far the most insane song I ever produced. It changes from Indian Raga to techno to jungle and back again. It was for the album "Stranger Things" by Suns of Arqa that featured beats by MuslimGauze and lyrics by Leonard Cohen. Both of whom had passed away.

I took an insane violin solo recorded by longtime SOA collaborator Johar Ali Khan in Delhi. And then built a track around it that matched the violin's crazed intensity. 

In Ableton Live I used the warp markers to slave the grid to the human tempo of the violin. So we could keep the human flow and feel. I then programmed a bunch of beats and added the synths and deep sub bass. My buddy Waverider helped out and did some amazing work on the drum programming.

I chopped the violin up and re-arranged it in places. All in all this is a crazy psychedelic trip! I created the song especially for the live set I did at Eclipse festival 2008. I closed my set with it and the audience freaked out!

Glitch Hop Hootenanny (Vol.3) - Good Vibes Festival 2019

The fourth volume of my series Glitch Hop Hootennany is my most successful mix so far. It reached #1 in the world on the Mixcloud chart for ELECTRO SWING, #2 in GLITCH HOP and #3 in BASS !

Featuring tracks / remixes by Griz, WBBL, Father Funk, Slynk, Deekline, JPod, Thomas Vent, Lack Lemmon and Opiuo. As well as cameo appearances by Tupac, Bob Marley, Al Green, Ray Charles, Rita Marley, Grover Washington Jr & Bill Withers, The Upsetters...

This recording is from my festival closing set at Khumeia Festival in 2021. It was the first festival after the COVID lockdown measures were lifted. Everyone was so excited that life was back to normal, to once again be dancing with our tribe!

Performing the festival closing set is a big responsibility that I took seriously. I put a lot of work into the track selection and practiced like crazy. The crowd were really enthusiastic dancing with big smiles on their faces in the afternoon sun. 

Big up to Ben Solo, Exen and the whole Alchemist Pact team for the great work creating the festival. Huge thanks for selecting me to do the closing set! I really needed that after the lockdown!

Happy Valentine's Day!

If you are looking for a soundtrack for your lovefest tonight, I got you covered. This is the most sensual mix I ever made. A blend of Twin Peaks style Retro Americana, Chillstep, Downtempo & Synth Pop. 

I released it on Valentine's Day in 2015 on Mixcloud. It reached #20 in the world on their Synth Pop chart.

An irresistibly funky set I performed on the Bassix sound system at the Groove & Bass Festival 2022 in Canada. On the Mixcloud Charts this mix got to #2 in the world in Electro Swing, #4 in Glitch Hop, #24 in Breakbeat and #29 in Bass House!

It's a blend of vintage Funk, Soul, Reggae and Disco songs glitched up in a Ghetto Funk blender with Breakbeats, deep Sub Bass and samples of classic Hip Hop & Dancehall tracks. Then for the finale it amps up into Bass House / UK Garage to then climax with some DnB & Jungle for the finale.

Glitch Hop Hootenanny (Vol.6) - St Patrick's Day Mix

This is my set from the Party Des Ateliers event in March 2024, the annual all night party fundraiser for Bâtiment 7. It's a funky Bass Music adventure that caused pandemonium on the dancefloor! This is the first time I post it online so this is the World Premiere!

Bâtiment 7 stands as a beacon of resistance against gentrification—a self-run artist co-op that’s rewriting the rules. After a decade of mobilization, the local residents took control of their fate in 2017, securing this massive industrial building as a refuge for creativity, collaboration, and community. 

They have a farm, a brewery, a grocery store, a car & bicycle garage, community garden and dozens of artist studios of all disciplines that do workshops to provide access to the community. It's an artist-powered ecosystem thriving on its own terms.

I'm honored to be performing there again at the 2025 fundraiser on March 29th! Merci beaucoup a Jonathan Dionne, Marilyne Coleslaw et toute l'equipe du B7!

Glitch Hop Hootenanny (Vol.7) - Live at Batiment 7

Tribunion Boréal is a DIY anarchist festival run on the principles of the Free Party Movement. The venue was this surreal Gaudi-esque castle on the Atlantic Ocean in Gaspésie, about 8 hours from Montreal. It was powered by custom built sound systems. Everyone contributed their time to do shifts to run the festival. There were no passengers.

Crews from Mexico, France, Italy and Quebec came together to make it happen and collectively they are known as Quebec Dream Team. Big up to all the organizers, DJ's and Vjs!

I was deeply honored to be selected to do the festival closing set. The original plan was that it would be an hour long feel-good funky set. But everyone was having so much fun that the owner of the castle extended it and I played for almost four hours! It was magical mayhem! 

On average I mixed in a new song roughly every two and half minutes. I blazed though 68 songs during my set! It ran the gamut from slow dance to slam dance. I've never seen such a happy smiling mosh pit before ! 

Dozens of genres were sampled like Funk, Soul, Motown, Disco, Reggae, Rock, Metal, Samba, Salsa, Hip Hop and then glitched & remixed into Ghetto Funk, Latin Bass, Swing N Bass, Bass House, UK Garage, Drum N Bass and Jungle.

This is the perfect example of what my festival sets sound like....

TRIBUNION BORÉAL - Festival Closing Set by DJ GUAPO

Let your mind float away on a musical voyage to India. This World Beat mix blends classical & folk traditions like Raga & Bhangra with the deep sub bass of Dub Reggae, Downtempo vibes and Breakbeats.

Featuring exotic instruments like sarangi, sitar, tabla, dhol, bansuri, santur, doudouk, tamboura and production by artists like Suns of Arqa, Kaya Project, Masaladosa, Up Bustle & Out, Dzihan & Kamien, Thievery Corporation, Panjabi MC and M.I.A. As well as remixes of folk & pop songs from India, Punjab & Pakistan.

I made this mix in the Fall of 2021 to honor the life of the recently departed WADADA, the bandleader of world beat pioneers SUNS OF ARQA. They were the first to combine the music of India with dub reggae back in 1979. I joined the band in 2005 and contributed to many of their albums. This mix is a tribute to his legacy, the lasting impact of his influence on musical history. 

The mix was broadcast on my radio show GLOBAL GROOVES on web radio station LaFaceB.Live. 

On the Mixcloud charts it reached #11 in the world in BREAKBEAT, #29 in DUB and #43 in DOWNTEMPO. On Mixcloud's Canadian Charts it peaked at #1 on the DUB charts, #2 in CHILLOUT and #4 in WORLD MUSIC.

GLOBAL GROOVES 1 : India Raga Dub, Downtempo & Breakbeats

For Volume 3 of my mix series Global Grooves, I drew inspiration from the rich cultural fusion found in Colombia and Venezuela—where Latin rhythms, African grooves, and indigenous folk traditions intertwine in powerful and unexpected ways. 

Colombian cumbias, unlike their Mexican counterparts, pulse with a distinct Afrobeat energy, driven by hypnotic percussion, bold brass, and a chorus of chanted vocals full of call / response patterns. 

I set out to find tracks that captured that spirit and wove them into a deep tapestry of House Music. Plus I added a few songs from iconic AfroBeat icons like Tony Allen.

Thus creating a timeless dancefloor journey through Africa & Latin America...

GLOBAL GROOVES 3 : Latin House Afro Beat Cumbia

Embark on a deep musical journey across Asia Minor, Anatolia, the South Caucasus, the Middle East, and the Maghreb — the crossroads where ancient trade routes and migrating cultures gave birth to rich musical traditions. 

Timeless folk melodies and rare instruments intertwine with modern electronic rhythms, forging hypnotic new forms shaped by millennia of cultural fusion.

For Volume 4 of my world music radio show Global Grooves I was inspired by the music of Cheb I Sabbah and Sahalé to do a deep dive into the music of this region. To explore how influences from India, Africa and The Balkans came to this crossroads and merged with the local cultures. 

So I discovered many traditional artists I had never heard of like Dhafer Youssef, Anna RF and Faran Ensemble. As well as many electronic artists from the Café de Anatolia record label who add these traditional musical elements into their productions.

So I blended them all together into a DJ mix that is a deep meditative musical ride through history....

GLOBAL GROOVES 4 : Anatolia, Middle East, Maghreb, South Caucasus

Volume 3 of "Love Songs for the End of The World" was the result of a feverish Quarantine Dream. It's the Soundtrack to the Apocalypse for a pair of lovers who are seizing one last moment of beauty while the pandemic slithers around outside. A burst of chillout romance for the End of Days.

Musically it features heartbreaking vocal melodies marinated with dreamy synth pop textures, downtempo chillstep beats and heavy sub bass. 

So ignore social distancing, snuggle up close with your lover and enjoy the nuclear fireworks as the world explodes.

(I made this mix during the quarantine lockdown phase of the pandemic. I was going a little crazy from not having performed for an audience in months. Wondering if it was indeed the End of the World.

The mix struck a chord with listeners and on the Mixcloud Charts it reached #38 in the world in Downtempo. And it reached #1 on their Downtempo Chart in Canada.

It features beautiful heartbreaking songs by Hundred Waters, Dawn Golden, Tom Day & Monsoon Siren, Bonobo, Son Lux, Glass Animals, Odesza, Ulrich Schnauss, Tycho and Susumu Yokota.)

Love Songs for the End of the World 3 : Quarantine Dreams

Substructure was a Bass Music Party thrown in Montreal on October 10 2025 under the philosophy of the Free Party Movement. We set up the gear in an urban space where the punks hang out. Under an overpass and across the train tracks with no residential housing nearby. It was a great success, no complaints from anyone or visits from the police. We danced from 5pm until 5am !

The event was organized by Tigrou and by Clement from Arts Le Media. Their format is to encourage up and coming talent by making three opening slots that are Open Deck : New DJ's can apply to play those slots. Then a few established DJ's play. Once the headliner has played we revert again to the open deck concept and anyone in the crowd can ask to play. 

I played the headlining slot and it was a blast ! The other DJ's for the event were Tigrou, Kaderito, Guo, Don Pablo, Nar-6, Sonny Delight etc... The music was rock solid!

In the open deck at the end we even had the world premiere DJ performance by a young woman named Fannie who produces Liquid DnB. She enjoyed the music so much she worked up the courage to perform for the first time! Bravo!

SUBSTRUCTURE - Free Party under an overpass

I had the honour of being booked to perform the Festival Closing Set @ Timeless 2025. Not only that but I had the privilege of playing on the Bassix Soundystem which is by far my favorite sound system in Canada!

It was a wild set full of smiling dancing people. The combo of silly, funky and badass was enthusiastically embraced by the crowd. We built an epic closing together!

Mega Big Up to Musik Me Luv, Bassix Crew, and of course to FESTOCHE BAMBOCHE !! I am in awe of all the hard work y'all put in to give this gift of a festival to our crazy electronic music community!

Before I began my set I made a quick speech dedicating this set to the memories of Jonas Abel & Marguerite Blanche. 

My first performance at Timeless / Good Vibes was in 2018. I had retired from the festival scene for about 10 years. I had been in a rut creatively until I discovered this new style of funky bass music. Which inspired me to send in an application to perform. But I didn't have the confidence to propose just a bass music set so I gave them a few options of styles of set I could do.

This is how I met Jonas Abel. He booked me and insisted I play a set of this new weird funky bass music I had been experimenting with but had rarely DJ'd at a gig. 

He gave me the confidence to go for it and re-invent myself. Fast forward a few years and this style has completely re-vitalized my career! So cheers Jonas for being so supportive and recognizing how amazing this style of music is.

I warned him that putting me on the Main Stage after 10 hours of Psy Trance would clear the dancefloor and kill the vibe. He said that's fine, you will build a new vibe. 

But this wasn't exactly the kind of reaction I was dreaming of for my triumphant return to the festival scene after a ten year hiatus!

So sure enough 5 minutes into my set my nightmare came true and I cleared the entire dance floor except for one person : a young woman with a unique sense of style and unique dance moves who danced the entire set.

We had a private party just the two of us for at least 20 minutes before more people joined. By the end of the set we had a rocking dance floor thanks to her enthusiasm.

That's how I met Marguerite Blanche. In my most disappointed moment when I had cleared the entire dance floor she was my lifeline. We locked eyes and had a blast just the two of us.

So I dedicate this set to the memories of JONAS & MARGUERITE ! You were taken from us way too young. I'm grateful for how you touched my life when I really needed encouragement. 

You played a key role in my evolution from clearing dancefloors with my weird Bass Music to playing the closing set to the entire festival. Thank you. You are deeply missed by the community.

On November 2nd it was the broadcast of my monthly radio show The Magic Roundabout on CKUT 90.3 FM in Montreal. Since it was the final day of the Dia De Los Muertos celebrations I made this mix as my offrenda.

As a producer & guitarist, he contributed to multiple albums by UK world-beat pioneers SUNS OF ARQA, blending global dub grooves, classical Indian Raga and cutting-edge electronic production.

As a co-founder of the Flamingo Funk crew, he’s shared the stage with Bass Music legends, closing after breakbeat heavyweight Krafty Kuts and Swing N Bass founder Mista Trick. 

Combined with his explosive festival-closing sets at Tribunion Boreal, Khumeia, Timeless and Lucioles, he is building a solid reputation as a top notch closing DJ.

In his hometown of Montreal, GUAPO has performed at some of the city's biggest events, including Montreal Jazz Fest, Bal en Blanc, Just For Laughs, Lumifest, Eclipse, Timeless, Groove & Bass, and marquee venues like Olympic Stadium, Rialto, Metropolis, Place Des Festivals and the Satosphere Dome. 

Guapo brings his genre-blending sound to the airwaves with two monthly radio shows. He’s a resident on CKUT 90.3 FM’s The Magic Roundabout, founded by influential Montreal DJ Andy Williams. The first Sunday of every month Guapo drops the latest in underground Bass Music sounds. 

Whereas on LaFaceB, he co-hosts Y Fait Chaud, offering monthly mixes that explore Afro Latin Brazilian House rhythms. Previously, he hosted the world music show Global Grooves and co-hosted Pépites, showcasing bass-driven sounds.

Musically, GUAPO is a sonic shapeshifter—his Bass Music sets are a wild tribute to sample culture, weaving together anthems from Funk, Soul, Blues, Reggae, Rock, Latin, Brazilian, Disco, Metal, Swing, and Hip-Hop. These classic sounds are chopped, glitched, and remixed into futuristic forms like Glitch Hop, Ghetto Funk, Bass House, UK Garage, DnB, Jungle, and Swing & Bass.

But what sets GUAPO apart is his electric stage presence.
