For this weeks Edit Room we are hugely gassed to welcome Silverback to the series! The Leeds based DJ, producer, and co-owner of label Basement Labs has been making big movements in the scene with recent releases ‘Nebula’ and ‘Fulminate’ out now, and a track featured on Partiboi 69’s Spotify playlist. Alex has plenty more music set to be out in the coming months so keep your eyes peeled 👀 

Silverback has put together a thunderous acid-electro remix of Dizzee Rascal and Fekky’s 2014 monster ‘Still Sittin’ Here’, not for the faint eared 👊

Hailing from the lands that brought the world new beat, Helsmoortel saw the light after a couple of musical and hedonic explorations. Influenced by 90s boom bap hip hop, rave, jungle, techno and drum and bass, he looks forward to push the feelings that these genres gave him as a small-town boy, into a new aesthetic era. He loves to intersperse hard-hitting drums and distorted sounds with exciting melodies that take hold of the dance floor. His motto is: Nothing is certain, anything goes.

‘Rave Generator’ sees Belgium’s Helsmoortel deliver 5 rave ready tracks. From the sharp stabby chords of ‘1986’ to the vicious arpeggiating bassline of ‘Knock The Hustle’ this EP serves up a little touch of everything that falls under the umbrella of Electro. If these anthems don’t get your party started, we don’t know what will!

"There are many a great duos that the contemporary world has been presented with. Think Beyonce and Jay Z, Bert and Ernie, Daft Punk, Sweet Female Attitude and Sunship, just to name a few. Today, Gallery Records are presenting another, powerhouse, bass and club driven duo, AK SPORTS and Mincy, two local underground legends and community leaders, combining for ‘Rave Again’ an EP to challenge any soundsystem. The duo each present an original and a corresponding remix, resulting in four percussive and bass driven numbers.

Hosting the A-side is Eora/Sydney born and bred, London and LA based, Balamii radio host, DJ, producer and high energy aficionado AK SPORTS. She delivers the chonky, ‘Flex’, ready to slide directly into her globally renowned DJ sets that feature hard hitting breaks, nostalgic warehouse cuts and the darker tinges of UK inspired garage. ‘Flex’ nods to the traditional tropes of these genres glued together by a tongue-in-cheek donk bassline which sits delicately below euphoric synths and a choppy, sporadic vocal sample. It’s alternative version sees Mincy transform the track's ebb and flow to a consistent, in your face four to the floor romper, representing it as a techno-esque sweat dripping affair. 

Just as remix’s outro provides a breath of fresh air for the listener, slams Mincy’s original, ‘Biscuit Inception’ a manifestation of her vast experience as a dance music community member. It includes being label executive of Extra Spicy, she’s shared the stage with the likes of DJ EZ, Flava D, Preditah, Conductah. Rarely does instrumental music require a parental guidance logo, but ‘Biscuit Inception’s’ booming bass line, eerie vocal sample and 90s inspired breaks are not for the faint hearted. If late night warehouse parties have taught us anything, it's that there's always room for more euphoria and AK SPORTS’ FJAAK-esque remix exemplifies this perfectly. Time travel is technically impossible, but the remix’s glitzy piano chords, shaky distorted percussion and an impressive omnipresent kick will vividly teleport the listener back to the 90s. 

While the collaborative EP makes sense sonically the duo’s intrinsic connection to community action makes the record even sweeter. Both artists are vast community leaders and advocates of a new era of dance music, one deservedly reclaimed by female identifying artists and communities. Their unapologetic nature in uplifting, representing and solidifying their respective communities are well on show here, packaged as four tracks ready to take over and demand attention in any club environment.

West Coast mainstays @dannygoliger and @justin-jay bring a slamming, club-ready collaborative release to Scuffed Recordings on the ‘Sticky Rice’ EP.

Danny and Justin have been releasing music together since 2020, when the two teamed up for a track on their own Fantastic Voyage imprint. Since then, the Los Angeles based artists have collaborated on tracks on Dirtybird and Childsplay, marking them out as a team to be reckoned with.

Alongside their collabs, Danny has appeared as a solo artist on labels like clip.art, art|werk and Moving Castle, while Justin has had a storied career appearing on labels as varied as Time Is Now, Suara, and Pets Recordings along with being a longtime member of the Dirtybird camp.

Now the two join forces on Scuffed Recordings, with a release including two collabs and a solo track from each artist.

From the outset, the duo wears their UK influences on their sleeves, taking in breakbeat grooves, rolling bass, and upfront percussion. Over the course of the two collabs and two solo tracks, Danny and Justin gleefully tear through an array of genres and influences – whether that’s electro, techno, UK garage, breaks, or IDM, they bounce off each other effortlessly to form a concise and impactful club EP.
