 Montezuma Tha Third is a multi-disciplinary Indigenous poet, musician, and human rights advovate from the Caz 'ahmo(Caxcan) Nation

They use their mediums to bring light to the common threads that bind indigenous people, Montezuma gives way to a new form of thought by using a radical approach and aggressive wordplay to convey imagery and messages of indigenous struggle, psychology, happiness, and heartbreak.

They are most known for speaking on controversial issues that are familiar to their listeners like global politics, racism, colonialism, classism, indigenous sovereignty, and personal experience

 Montezuma started out producing hip-hop mixtapes in high school with other local talent. He moved on to college where he discovered the American Indian Movement and Chicano Movement leaders in his time in San Diego. 

This experience heavily influenced his views on his own identity and in turn his music changed incorporating familiar instruments to Indigenous Mexico and mixing in early jazz samples, this was the start of a lifelong journey in expression. Since then Montezuma has been invited onto the Pow Wow circuit, ceremonies, Indigenous Fashion Shows, Hip Hop festivals, etc. They can give the community a lens into the symbols and life of the Native people. 

Painting and Singing about the connections many tribes share has a huge impact on native youth who have never had the opportunity to learn, see, or hear about their roots because of systemic displacement. 

Montezuma also works in activism and human rights working with Indigenous rights groups and immigrant rights to advocate for issues ranging from Land Defense and Challenging Border Policy to the Mental Health of the Native Diaspora. 

He has even done work on a municipal level for change in Chicano-Indigenous communities across North San Diego County by working with groups such as Union Del Barrio, Detention Resistance, and Calpulli Omeyocan(Aztec Dance Group)

 Montezuma has also used other skills such as Spraypaint and work on Canvas to Paint Murals, Teach, and even Live Paint at events bringing joy to people as they interact and ask questions about the animals, symbols, and motifs they may recognize from across many nations. Trying to show that from North to South there is a larger Native Diaspora than is written in statistics or even taught in current curriculums. 

This is how Montezuma uses art for Indigenous People from South Turtle Island to have a voice and identity in this land.

Avant Folk Noise made with vox + custom electronix + homemade instruments in the American South.

Came up in the ‘90s Chicago rave scene while working on my undergrad degree, and nurtured a healthy addiction to Aphrohead, Green Velvet, DJ Hyperactive, Armando, Gemini, et al.  Currently infatuated with Minimal House (Giegling in particular) and Detroit House… love my Dub Techno too.  I've played small clubs from Cyprus to San Francisco, and house parties everywhere in between.  Although I've dabbled in digital mixing, I'm most comfortable with all-vinyl sets, and tend to gravitate towards a long, blending style.  I'm also a working professional in the DC area with two degrees in electrical engineering.
