Graham Day & The Forefathers were formed to “crank out choice cuts from four Graham Day-fronted bands - The Prisoners, The Prime Movers, The Solarflares and The Gaolers - distilling 30-odd years of high quality song writing, lo-fi production and high energy performance to their stripped down Garage-Rock essence”. Steve from Retro Man Blog meets up with Graham and his long-time bandmates Allan Crockford and Wolf Howard to discuss their forthcoming album “Good Things”, which sees them finally coming to terms with an outstanding musical legacy. They candidly talk us through their fascinating history and pick out a few favourite songs from each of the line-ups. Along the way we also discuss and play some of the other bands and artists they have worked with over the years, such as The James Taylor Quartet, Billy Childish, The Daggermen, The Spartan Dreggs, The Galileo 7 and Planet. Generously sound-tracked by a hand-picked selection of over twenty songs from the trio’s varied career, including some exclusive tracks from the new album “Good Things”, this Podcast is a must-have for every die-hard fan and a perfect taster for those newcomers wanting an introduction to one of Britain’s best ever songwriters.

Following a successful 2016 with his well-received Golden Tides, Bahia and Sunlit Forest EP’s Joe Morris returns to offer up four new cuts on Kenny Wisdom and Joe Burrin’s much lauded Pleasure Unit imprint. Continuing the producer’s passion for organic New Age, paradisiacal ambience and dreamy deep house, lead title ‘Jacaranda Skies’ might be what Telephones and Larry Heard sound like should they have met in Rimini circa ’91. A dusky atmosphere provides the backdrop to ecstasy inducing chords, an elevated brass sequence and afro percussion driving a tight groove. ‘Mangrove Dawn’ is an aural quaalude hit; gentle synth washes fold over each other, nature sounds buzz through a distant 303. ‘The Lost Garden’ opens to a reverb-soaked slide guitar and soaring pad section before a Jaguar snarl gives way to a subtle kick pattern atop M1 chimes and a Bali bells. ‘Reprise’ closes the EP off with a beat-less take on the original, the melodies given more space; the sonic equivalent of open-air swaying under hazy pink skies

Citizen Kane (Ron Trent Night Dubbin Remix)

I have generally spent my entire career giving people compelling narratives for their misery. So in keeping with tradition, the bookends of this mix are things I have either played on, recorded, or spent endless days in the general proximity of the artists, and all are old friends. Sandwiched in between I suppose is the smoky cheese? Not sure what all of it means, as making mix tapes is something I have done since I was a wee lad, and every tape is reverential and has an emotional connection to it.

''Born in New York, Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie grew up fixated on a career in professional tennis, and was brought up under the wings of 1963 Wimbledon champion Chuck McKinley. A tragic knee injury ended his career at the young age of sixteen.

After receiving a tip from an old friend, and a ride from Santa Fe New Mexico, Adam ventured to Austin, Texas where he lived in a cloud of fog for 10 years, until moving to Europe and finding a better quality of life. Adam is probably best known for his work as founder of seminal musical projects Stars of the Lid and A Winged Victory for the Sullen. Wiltzie has written the original scores for several film and television productions including Salero, The Yellow Birds and Iris. He also collaborated with previous EE contributor Jóhann Jóhannsson on his scores for The Theory of Everything and Arrival, and wrote two of the main themes with Dustin O'Halloran in the 2016 Oscar-nominated film Lion.''

Adam is set to score 'The Burning Woman', http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4465572/ a film directed by Jake Scott and starring Christina Hendricks, Sienna Miller. The soundtrack will be released later next year. 

Stars of the Lid will return to play Sigur Ros-curated festival 'Norður og niður' on December 30th in Reykjavik, Iceland.

New York based Throne of Blood have been consistently one of the best labels about over the past few years.
Having initially been set up as an outlet for Punk Funk legends, the Rapture and James Friedman, they have gone on to release tracks from Richard Norris, Bicep and Daniel Avery amongst others. 
Arpregios are probably one of the most overlooked moments of a night out.  Little stacked notes dancing up and down dancers spines forcing them to move their feet.  This combined with the tribal sounding drums, tape deck pads and an African chant and you pretty much have all the elements needed to make Afro Sirene.  However, you don't need to make it yourself the Hardway Bros have gone to the trouble to make it for you.  Made up of Sean Johnston, one half of ALFOS and... well, it's just him.  And he's turned in a mid tempo monster which twists and turns through complicated rhythms whilst never taking its eyes off the dancefloor.
So while you could make a complaint to Trading Standards about the fact that the Hardway Bros aren't really brothers at all..,  why bother when the music is this good!?
