A former Chicago "Smooth Jazz" radio station and an institution in Chicago for many. This mix is dedicated to my Mom. Happy Belated Birthday! We used to listen to WNUA in her car all the time. I used to scoff at the Kenny G's of the world back then, but little did I know it would all come full circle. I'm playing these type of cuts in my sets and on the radio. 🎷

Tanisha and I were listening to a sick WNUA playlist on the way to my Mom's bday (9/25), and this mix idea came to me. I approached this as if I was asked to play a dj set on WNUA, so I played more of the soulful, dj-friendly cuts I recall them playing than the hot tub jazz. 🛀

I may make another version with more deep hot tub anthems if you guys are enjoying this Vocalo edition.

I recently started working with Nigel (dj trew) at Miyagi Record Shop and we acquired a great dj collection earlier this summer. It contained many of the key musical components from this very formative era (ca. 83-92), so I came up with the idea to make a tribute mix solely with hand-picked selections from those stacks. I just approached it as if I was asked to play a set at the original Medusa's on a Saturday night. This is by no means a comprehensive tribute. Medusa's was before my time. Nevertheless, it’s been a fun way to honor Dave and the club's remarkable legacy.
