ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
Shalok:

ਟੂਟੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਜਾਸੁ ਕੇ ਹੋਆ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਟੁੱਟਣ ਤੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ । 
One whose bonds are cut away joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਜੋ ਰਾਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਏਕ ਕੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੂੜਾ ਰੰਗੁ ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਜੋ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਰੰਗ ਐਸਾ ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਮਜੀਠ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਾਂਗ ਕਦੇ ਉਤਰਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ) ।੧।
Those who are imbued with the Love of the One Lord, O Nanak, take on the deep and lasting color of His Love. ||1||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੧ ॥
Shalok, First Mehla:

ਨਾ ਮੈਲਾ ਨਾ ਧੁੰਧਲਾ ਨਾ ਭਗਵਾ ਨਾ ਕਚੁ ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ) ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿੱਬੜਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਧੁੰਧਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਫ਼ ਪਿਆ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੇਖ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ,
Neither dirty, nor dull, nor saffron, nor any color that fades.

ਨਾਨਕ ਲਾਲੋ ਲਾਲੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੈ ਰਤਾ ਸਚੁ ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੀ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪੇ੍ਰਮ-ਰੰਗ ਨਾਲ) ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Nanak, crimson - deep crimson is the color of one who is imbued with the True Lord. ||1||

ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੈ, ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਰੱਖਿਅਕ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਵੱਡੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਇਕ ਐਸਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਸਮਝੋ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਹਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ, 
My Beloved God, the Sustainer of the World, the Lord of the Universe, is deep, profound and unfathomable.

ਦੂਸਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਵਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹ ॥੧॥
ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦੇ । ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ।੧।
There is no other like Him; O Nanak, He is not worried. ||1||

ਕਿ ਮਾਰਾ ਬਕਾਰ ਅਸਤ ਦਰ ਵਕਤ ਜੰਗ ॥੫੬॥
(ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ) ਦਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਜੋ ਜੰਗ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਆਵੇਗਾ ॥੫੬॥

ਬਿਦਿਹ ਸਾਕੀਯਾ ਸਾਗ਼ਰੇ ਨੈਨ ਪਾਨ ॥
ਹੇ ਸਾਕੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨੈਣਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਸਤ ਕਰ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ
(The poet says), “Oh! Saki, bring me the cup full of eyes-exhilarator,

ਕੁਨਦ ਪੀਰ ਸਦ ਸਾਲਹ ਰਾ ਨਉ ਜਵਾਨ ॥੫੭॥੩॥
ਜੋ ਸੌ ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਬੁੱਢੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਜਵਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫੭॥੩॥
Which restores the youthful vigour in a hundred year old.(57)

Guru Gobind Singh Ji in Hikayathaa - 1399

ਬਿਦਿਹ ਸਾਕੀਯਾ ਸਾਗ਼ਰੇ ਸਬਜ਼ ਗੂੰ ॥
ਹੇ ਸਾਕੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹਰੇ ਰੰਗ (ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ) ਦਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ,
‘Oh! Saki  Give me the cup full of green (liquid)

ਕਿ ਮਾਰਾ ਬਕਾਰਸਤ ਜੰਗ ਅੰਦਰੂੰ ॥੨੦॥
ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਲੋੜੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੦॥
‘Which I need at the time of struggle(20)

ਲਬਾਲਬ ਬਕੁਨ ਦਮ ਬਦਮ ਨੋਸ਼ ਕੁਨ ॥
ਉਹ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਕੰਢੇ ਤਕ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਰਹਾ
‘Fill it up to the brim  so that I can drink it with every breath

ਗ਼ਮੇ ਹਰ ਦੁ ਆਲਮ ਫ਼ਰਾਮੋਸ਼ ਕੁਨ ॥੨੧॥੧੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਦੋਹਾ ਜਹਾਨਾ ਦੇ ਗ਼ਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿਆਂ ॥੨੧॥੧੨॥
‘And forget the afflictions of both the worlds(21)(12)

ਨ ਸਾਜ਼ੋ ਨ ਬਾਜ਼ੋ ਨ ਫ਼ੌਜੋ ਨ ਫ਼ਰਸ਼ ॥
(ਉਸ ਪਾਸ) ਨਾ ਸਾਮਾਨ (ਸਾਜ-ਸੱਜਾ) ਹੈ, ਨਾ ਬਾਜ਼ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਅਤੇ ਗ਼ਲੀਚੇ।

ਖ਼ੁਦਾਵੰਦ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿੰਦਏ ਐਸ਼ੁ ਅਰਸ਼ ॥੪॥
(ਪਰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸੁਖ-ਸੁਵਿਧਾਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਵਰਗ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
Through His Generosity, He provides Heavenly Enjoyments to one without any wealth, falcon, army property and authority.4.

Today with the beginning of new month of 'Magh', it also marks the start of singing of Raag Basant. As per tradition, on the last night of the month of 'Poh', an ardass happens at Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar, for commecing of Raag Basant Gayan (Singing).

According to the maryada of Sri Harmandir Sahib, the Hazoori Raagis sings the shabad ਮਾਹਾ ਮਾਹ ਮੁਮਾਰਖੀ ਚੜਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਬਸੰਤੁ ॥ (first shabad of Raag Basant in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, at Ang 1168) to mark the start of Raag Basant Gayan. And till the occasion of Holla Mahalla, Raag Basant is being sung, ending with shabad, ਸੁਰਹ ਕੀ ਜੈਸੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਚਾਲ ॥ (Dhan Bhagat Kabir Ji's shabad on Ang 1196, i.e. last shabad of Raag Basant in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji). This also indicates that Raagis should sing all rest of Raag Basant shabads in those 2 months but ਹੈਨਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਘਣੇ,

Once the Head Granthi of Sri Darbar Sahib said at a event that Bhai Randhir Singh Ji used to sing all the shabads of Raag Basant during his service at Sri Darbar Sahib, Sri Amritsar Sahib.
