"Dandelion Shuffle "

Tune finished on Mac / MilkyTracker august 2013.

This is the oldest tune I have gone back to and finalized to date. This is from way back in 1997 before I started doing multichannel chips.  I have keept it 4chn but added loads of new samples.  

The core of the tune is very basic but coming back to it I’ve tried to have a bit of fun with it to spice things up. 

I see this as a throw away sort of song, but having finalized it I might as well post it here in case some one else feels otherwise.

BRave Killers Festival

This is a remix of the song "Fly To Paradise" by composer Eric Whitacre for the Virtual Choir 4 project.  I only used the stems he provided, my guitar, and a Nintendo Gameboy running LSDJ for everything you hear.   

Whitacre's style of using diatonic dissonance to create tension has been incredibly influential to my own work over the years.  It was kind of interesting to be able to pour some of that influence back into a reimagining of one of his songs.  

I wasn't sure how a choir and gameboy chip sounds would mix together, but as the song progressed I really felt the magic.  It was also a total mindfuck to take a renowned composers work, and have the gall to change the chords and notes around to my liking.  Oh well, just another challenge right?  

Hope you guys like this one, I think it turned out pretty special.

Since I started playing around in trackers again a few years back I have generally tended to pick up old unfinished tunes from my archives and tried to finalize them. 

This is not one of those old tunes, this is a brand spanking new one made from scratch 2013. I came up with the bass and drum groove and everything else is built around that riff. It all fell into place easier than usual and all in all it was a very fun tracker exercise.
 

The last couple of songs I have been working with have all been smaller 4 channel tunes with many restrictions. So when this tune got going I instantly felt it would be fun to leave the restrictions out of the picture this time and just go for it. I have used sampled and in som cases processed c64 sounds as well as my own hand drawn waveforms.

 
I had two big influences making this tune and if you like my tune you might want to look them up:

Chris Huelsbeck –  ”The Wall” & ”Mr Walker and his factory” from the Turrican 2 soundtrack (Amiga).  My favorite game soundtrack of all time, I love those big synthrock themes!

Mitch & Dane – I love all their groovy pop stuff on the c64, ”Bitchbass” might be the most obvious influence on this particular tune.

Promising Netherlands producer Ganz releases his debut Terrorhythm EP fresh from the hype of his remix of fellow label-mates Louis Futon’s ‘Shoulda Known’. Pvrple Cwtch (welsh for ‘hug’) sees Ganz reinterpreting popular bass music motif ‘Purple’ with a palette of punchy stadium drums and glossy synths, reminiscent of a certain few Scottish beatsmiths.


Ganz goes straight for the jugular with first track ‘Get One’s’, delivering a restless bassline akin to a whirring, supercharged cattle prod amidst chunky percussive whiplash and an infectious vocal hook.


Next comes ‘Purple Forest’, an electrifying, warpspeed cruise through its icy surroundings, illustrated by layers of peaking, rapturous mid-range and trilling hi-hats.


Final track ‘It’s All Good’ begins with a warm, swooning dose of sub-bass before launching into a turbulent energy surge complete with prog-rock drum fills, shimmering arp melodies and elevating vocals, resulting in a track as emotive as it is club-ready.

◆アルバム紹介

ソロとしてはそれぞれ00年代後半より活動を開始、2012年にユニットとなり同年12月にBunkai-Kei recordsからリリースした1stアルバム『utakata＋＋』より約2年、疋田哲也+NILによる待望の2ndフルアルバムが完成。

Electronica、IDM、Techno、Dub、Ambientなど一つのジャンルでは収まらないほどの様々な要素が鏤められた彼等従来のサウンドの良さはそのままに、心の琴線に触れる叙情的なメロディーやコード、大地と大空を駆け巡る情景的なストリングスやシンセサイザー、また聴き手の耳を離さないスムースなリズムと構成力などをはじめ、楽曲としての精度の飛躍とともにその魅力が存分に凝縮されつつ、そこに作品としての一貫性も加わり、非常に魅力的なアルバムに仕上がった。

アートワークには、第7回大野城まどかぴあ版画ビエンナーレ展池田満寿夫大賞、第4回山本鼎版画大賞展上田市長賞などを受賞した銅版画作家である上原修一の作品をフィーチャー、マスタリングはアーティストとしても高い評価を受けるKASHIWA Daisukeが担当しました。

アーティストによる楽曲コメント

01. Bud： 自然の中に存在する美しいサウンドを「冷たい春風の中で力強く生い茂る草原」をモチーフに表現しました。様々な世代の心に届くようにメロディのある作品を意識し、多くのアコースティック楽器を使って自然がみせる暖かさを表現しています。

02. Crop feat. Go Yamanojo： この曲も自然の中に存在する美しいサウンドを「成長と収穫」をモチーフに表現しました。畑を耕す音とピアニカ様々な僕の身近にある音を使って構成してあります。ドラムロール（スネア）はGo Yamanojoさんにお願いして叩いていただきました。

03 Mist：「梅雨前の霧、朝焼け」をイメージして作りました。霧の中の冷たさを電子音やnoisで表現しています。

04. Trench：「海溝」をイメージして作りました。海の深さ、広がりのイメージを歪んだピアノ、モールス信号、人の声の音で表現しています。

05. Water Wheel：「夏前の水車」をイメージして作りました。くるくる回る水車のテンポ感と、水しぶきをイメージしたノイズ、木製の水車はカリンバで表現しています。

06. Pray feat. dagshenma：「祈り」をイメージして作りました。神聖な祈りを透き通る電子音で表現いたしました。抜けの良いBeat Soundは京都の音楽家dagshenmaさんにお願いして作っていただきました。

07. Voice：「人の声」をモチーフに作りました。アルバム後半に向けてのラストスパート感がでるようにやや早めのテンポです。声の美しさを出したかった曲です。

08. Voyage：「航海」をイメージして作りました。海の上をゆっくりと旅するイメージです。変わった景色ではなくゆっくり穏やかに変化していきたかったので、曲調もミニマルにしています。

09. Setting sun：「夏の終わりの落日」をイメージして作りました。まだ少し暖かい夏の終わりを表現したかったので、メロディのカリンバはテープを通して劣化させ暖かさが出るように工夫しました。

10. Planet feat. Youichi Okano：「冬の夜空の星」をイメージして作りました。寒さの中に懐かしさを出したかったので音も透き通る電子音と、古いテープの揺らぎを使って古い懐かしいサウンドを目指して作りました。Pad、空間の美しい音にはYouichi Okanoさんの音を使わせていただきました。

11. Connection：「世界の人の繋がり」をイメージして作りました。様々な国の方の人の声をサンプリングして曲の中で繋げました。

12. Matrix：「母体」をイメージして作りました。最後の曲ですので次回作品が生まれる、育つイメージで母体です。羊水の中で広くゆっくりとした感じの中、自然の音を聞きながら次ぎの作品を生み出せればと思っています。


◆アーティスト・プロフィール

Tetsuya Hikita+NIL（疋田哲也+NIL）

北海道出身の疋田哲也（ヒキタテツヤ）とNIL（ナイル）のプロデュース・ユニット、現在は都内を拠点としている。
疋田は2009年より制作を開始、NILは2006年より制作を開始しつつ2009年よりDJとしても活動。
2012年に疋田哲也の呼びかけで共同での音楽制作に着手。北海道での初ライブをきっかけに、東京、大阪、京都、札幌でのライブ活動を行いながら楽曲を制作。同年12月にオンライン・レーベルの旗手Bunkai-Kei recordsから1stアルバム『utakata＋＋』をリリース、また2013年初頭には渋谷の人気ライブハウスWWWのW recordsに参加、これまでにコンピレーション作品への楽曲提供やリミックスなどを多数手がける。
同時にBunkai-Kei records主催の《OUT OF DOTS》や関西をベースに独自の空間を演出する《IdleMoements》など国内の多数イベントに出演。疋田は2014年1月にAN/AYよりEP『Person and nature』をリリース、また同年5月にflauとベルリンのProject Mooncircleより共同リリースされたKidkanevilの『My Little Ghost』にも参加している。
そして2015年1月、待望の2ndアルバムをPROGRESSIVE FOrMよりリリースする。

疋田哲也+NIL "Voice" from upcoming album "Ferry" PFCD46

"Footwork”—the very word indicates a movement of the feet that is “work” (as in an effort to achieve). Its joyous social party nature sits within a lineage of African American history that includes the infamous Soul Train dance tunnel and Hip Hop dance circles. However, as Footwork continues to become more popular, we should not forget that at its essence it is a highly evolved battle form. This is the central theme one feels listening to the stunning “Fingers, Bank Pads & Shoe Prints,” the second album from RP Boo, the man credited with inventing the Footwork genre with a 1997 track “Baby Come On” (recently re-released on the Planet Mu EP “Classics Vol. 1”).

RP Boo is to Footwork what Juan Atkins is to Techno – a source point for a busting out of innovative ideas and new directions. When asked about his role as progenitor of the genre he humbly notes, “It has taken me a while to adjust to. I actually had to think about how it could have come to be by listening to other producers and DJs that were around as it was forming. All of them said, at different times, hey RP you know you created a mean following of people that are inspired by the way you make tracks and get the dancers into a whole new battle stage with energy. It helps me see that I represent a breathing source of sounds.”

Dancing is central to RP Boo. If you’ve been lucky enough to catch one of his DJ sets, such as his groundbreaking 2013 European debut at Unsound Festival in Krakow, you’ll have seen him come out from behind the decks and start dancing in and with the crowd, spreading Footwork both sonically and as an evolving set of movements. People who meet RP Boo may note a stark contrast between the intense battle aesthetics of “Fingers, Bank Pads & Shoe Prints” and the joyousness of RP Boo as an individual. He says, “I know how to speak battle from being in the circles. Footworkers need fuel and they often say, only you can get us to battle like that. Once outside the turntables, I use the same energy to speak with people. It’s a job and I am strong on giving encouragement to others, I want to uplift people. I have to try and walk that life for as long as I am alive.”

Sonically, RP Boo is a modern-day Zatoichi samurai, cutting his samples in unorthodox ways. His sound remains unique. “Fingers, Bank Pads & Shoe Prints” contains both tracks made after his acclaimed 2013 debut album “Legacy” (“An album of scorching, scene-defining hits” SPIN) and older tracks. Highlights include “Banging On King Dr.” which sees him cutting up street numbers; the monolithic noir feeling of “Sleepy”; the subtle funk of “Your Choice” which may in some way be inspired by his Dad’s role as bass player for Prince; “Lets Dance Again” whose delicate soulful sound echoes deep streams of Chicago dance music history; the dramatic string-infused “Daddy's Home” and the celebration of achieving dreams that is the closer “B'Ware.”

The now famous third anthem we made Kenët and me for our good old friend "Unreal".

I composed the main melody and arpeggio chords progression and Kenët did all the rest, especially the wonderfull leads :)

You probably heard this tune before in (lots off) keygen/warez menu, in hundred different versions on YouTube, but THIS ONE is the original, released in september 2001 in the Rebel's chipmusicdisk #1 (http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=3604).

There is a little story behind this one.

After finalizing a bunch of old tunes without any size/channel restraints I wanted to challenge myself. The goal was to make a little 4chn chip no more than 20kb. Possibly as a contribution for the EDISON 2013 oldschool/tracked music competition.

I scanned through my old workfiles and stumbled upon a few patterns from 1999 I could not remember having made. I got a bit of an inspiration going, came up with an idea for a progression and hammered it out as fast as I could. It ended up the tune you can listen to on this page.

…the thing was I still wasn’t sure about those instigating patterns so I asked around with some old scene friends. Finally it turned out those first patterns were made by Loonie. It was something he wrote down when he was brainstorming for a contribution for the chiptune compo at LTP3-party back in 1999.

I asked if he was OK with me releasing this tune as a coop, he said yes and here we are.

We hope someone enjoys the final tune!
