Badlands (2013)is a set of musical landscapes for string quartet, commissioned by Freya String Quartet. 

Badlands is inspired by the landscapes of western North Dakota. The badlands are an ancient geological wonder undergoing drastic changes. A heavily eroded and barren region, marked by intricate erosional sculpturing and breathtaking vistas, the badlands are threatened by a rampant 21st century oil and gas boom.

The two movements are landscapes for string quartet. The first, "November (pas de deux)" draws inspiration from the endless horizon and sky of the prairie, a sea of grass dancing in the wind, drifting clouds. "Red roads, white skies" is a winter badlands landscape; white snow and sky against the red of the scoria roads and buttes.

Revelation VIII

This piece, Constellations is an in depth exploration into modulatory music in just intonation. Over the course of approximately 13 minutes a series of strict modulations take place, which wander around a 3-5-7-9-11 Eikosany. An Eikosany is a 20 note just intonation microtonal scale, invented by the music theorist Ervin Wilson.

Polska in G Blues aims to merge established folk music with my personal tonal language in just intonation.

This is my contribution to the official demos of Versilian Studios new product, VSCO2 (Chamber Orchestra 2), using no other instruments or other samples than VSCO2.

It was made with the official video promo in mind. This is why there are so sudden transitions.

It's both to highlight the versatility of this sample library, but also to correlate with the visual and marketing aspects of the video.
For the atonal piano part, the characteristics of the image zooming even. (also showcasing multiple mic positions while at it), as well as building tension at the right place.

I also was part of the beta-testing team, doing limited testing at first, but then boosting my contributions during the scoring of this track.

Hope you'll find both the composition and the sample library VSCO2 appealing, despite the weird sudden twists and turns, or the atonal elements aside...

Track title is a reference to both movie eras with matinees and partly also the Baroque era in Classical music. (Two kinds of Harpsichord showcased, no less)

Some highlighted instruments in this track:
Upright piano and glockenspiel in the intro, along with a similarly sounding bonus Multi-patch
Italian Harpsichord followed by French Harpsichord, and Solo strings
Individual string section ensembles with several different articulations
(The spiccato articulations are highlighted like that by design, so demanding ears can review the quality of how the samples are recorded and compiled)
3-4 different solo flute patches
several solo brass instruments, some common, some rare ones
multiple solo woodwind instruments
Grand piano & solo strings during atonal section
Church Organ, with triangles and other references to the Holy trinity, err... no more likely references to the triple threat of presenting instrument patches during the product highlight.

I may chose to compose individual full tracks out of the different sections and pitch for sync, 
but this very version will always be associated with Versilian Studios.

This track is One-Stop, being my sole personal work.
As with all my individual work, I have the sole master rights. (until any other agreement would be settled upon track signing)

Lux Aeterna

"Vingar, Virvlar" was commissioned by Linn Persson and Kristin Uglar.

In this piece, the title "Vingar,Virvlar" (wings, vortices) works on a number of levels, not least in describing the sound and shape of the music. Together, the saxophones parts build single flowing lines, which climb upwards through a series of canonic treatments.The saxophones often switch parts in the line, like migrating birds in flight switching position.

Saxophone is a soaring, beautifully resonant and vocal instrument, the sound somehow is appropriately matched to an image of great birds in flight.
