In this music, I tried to compose a sorta soundtrack for 4 situations in the book Capitães da Areia (1937) by Jorge Amado within 3 movements concert. It has some Brazilian and African percussion instruments, all widely used in regional music from Salvador, the city from the book. I was influenced by Dorival Caymmi, a famous Brazilian composer at the time the book was published, to compose some tunes for a "cavaquinho" in the concert. As the orchestra plays, a narrator reads some excerpts that I selected and adapted from the book. The first 2 situations (I mov.), happen in the same place, Trapiche (from chapters "O trapiche" and "Noite dos Capitães da Areia"). This place was their home in the book, an abandoned wooden dock at a beach in the city of Salvador, Brazil. The third situation (II mov.), happens in a square that has a carousel, from the chapter "As luzes do carrossel". It was a very magical and special moment for them. And the fourth one and last (III mov.), happens in some hills of Salvador, a chase moment of a failed robbery from the chapter "Como um trapezista de circo".
