In the Fields of Grass

Gustavo Dobles was born in San Jose, Costa Rica.  He began music at the age of 13 in Caracas, Venezuela with his first electric guitar and played in several rock bands.  He quickly progressed to piano studies and classical music.

In 1978, moved to Boston to study music achieving  a   Bachelor's degree  in Composition at the Boston Conservatory of Music graduating Magna Cum Laude, and a Master's degree in Composition at the New England Conservatory of Music.

During 1981 to 1985, he had three orchestral pieces premiered by professional orchestras in Caracas (Philharmonic Orchestra of Caracas, Symphonic Orchestra of Venezuela and the Municipal Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela).   In 1985, his Symphony #1 was awarded first prize at the "Premio Municipal de música" (Municipal Prize in Music) in Caracas.

At that point, his life went in a different direction and he spent the next 30 years raising a family and working in business.

In 2015, he returned to music as he published a tribute album "La fuerza del amor" (The Force of Love) for his mother the acclaimed TV and Radio personality and journalist of Venezuela, Isa Dobles.  This was followed by the release in 2016 of his album "El milagro eras tú" (The Miracle is You) featuring the song "Mujer Hermosa" (Beautiful Woman), which was widely played in South and Central America.

Gustavo writes, produces and teaches music, plays piano, guitar, bass, ukulele, and sings in Spanish on some of his rock music releases. 
​
Since 2015, he has published over 25 albums under the artistic names of Gustavo Dobles, Dobles and Dobles Ensemble.  Of the essence of his music is eclecticism with combinations of many different styles ranging from rock, latin, experimental to classical in a constant state of learning and exploration.
