William Kidd, also known as Captain William Kidd or simply Captain Kidd was a Scottish sea captain who was commissioned as a privateer and had experience as a pirate. 
Kidd was born in Dundee, Scotland on October 15, 1654. 
As a young man, Kidd settled in New York City, which the English had taken over from the Dutch.
He and his Crew sailing the Sea in the service of the crown as Freebooters at first moved on to board all Ships they encouter no mater thier Flag. His Crew convinced him to take this Path.
On 1 April 1698, Kidd reached Madargascar 
Here he met the first pirate during his sea voyage, Robert Culliford on the "Mocha Frigate". He ordered the attack on the "Mocha Frigate." Unfortunately for Kidd, his men not only refused to take action against Culliford, his crew refused to attack Culliford and threatened instead to shoot Kidd., and ran over to him in droves, taking weapons and equipment with them. 
Only 13 of them remained loyal to him. After all, for the sake of his own safety, Kidd was forced to give Culliford a drinking bout to assure him that he had nothing to fear from him.
After this events Kidd decided to return home.
He left one of his Ships behind, ordered it to be lit and sailed homeward aboard the "Quedagh Merchant". On his return to New York City, he was arrested and taken to Stone Prison. He was later sent to England to stand trial for piracy and murder. He was held in the notorious Newgate Prison until the trial. Found guilty of all charges, he was hanged in London's Execution Dock on May 23, 1701. The rope broke during the execution and Kidd could only be hanged on the second attempt. His body was tarred and chained in an iron cage hung over the Thames as a warning to future pirates.
