Mariano Mellino is one of the hottest names of the moment in Buenos Aires nightlife. Influenced by artists like Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed, Sasha and Nick Warren, his music has appeared on Darkroom Dubs, Crossfrontier Audio, Global Underground, Plattenbank and here he happily returns to Sudbeat with a three tracker that will not leave you indifferent!

Starting things off, the lovely ‘Mars from Eden’ introduces to this fine EP, with a blanket of warmth greeting us like a hug on the dancefloor, this smile inducing gem unfurls its beauty, as it subtly meanders along effortlessly.

Picking up the pace a little, we find ‘St. Luke Reborn’. Again away with dreamy chords, this winner delivers and energetic, yet restrained vibe. Punchy percussion, trippy fx and warm pads meet warbling muted synths to create an understated biggie.

Next up, label boss Graziano Raffa remixes ‘St. Luke Reborn’, taking us in to moodier edge territories, as the bassline teases and merges wonderfully with the gently softer sounds, creating a mesmeric state of sophistication. Calculated builds ease us gently upwards, as the energy levels pulse with anticipation , whilst keeping a deeper tight reign on affairs.

Rounding things off nicely, we find ‘Calypso Flare’. This bleepy melodic bouncy number means business, as it drives along, tinkling as it goes and playing with your mind.

Following up Cid Inc's Beatport #1 'Abyss' single, Replug Records returns with a brand new EP from Jamie Stevens. The Australian producer has achieved an amazing level of critical and commercial success over the course of his career. As one of his country's most talented and sought after artists he has proven his skill in professional sound design, music scores for film and contemporary electronic music. As the founding member of Infusion, the much-loved Australian live act, he's left his mark around the globe, headlining some of the biggest and most respected clubs including; Fabric (London), Pacha (Buenos Aires), Womb (Tokyo) and festivals such as Glastonbury, Coachella, Roskilde and Creamfields in Moscow, Brazil, UK and Argentina. More recently Jamie's discography has been highlighted by releases on Guy J's Lost & Found and Armadillo imprints, which have lead him back to Replug for his first artist EP entitled 'The Forgotten Dive'.

Spread across three tracks it's the title and showcase piece which gets the journey underway. Commanding kicks and steel drums set the piece in motion, as astral designs and afro rhythms slowly surround the framework. The second act shifts energy further into the subconscious, as the cosmic narrative evolves amidst a haze of wispy atmospherics, percussive clusters and sonic artefacts; ultimately leading to an understated yet charming finale. In the words of the man himself, "Forever obsessed with tribal rhythms, this was a project that went through many incarnations before arriving at this point that traverses the atmosphere of a lost soundtrack and the momentum of an old Tenaglia 12". I spent time on throwing a few curveballs whilst being mindful of not losing focus plus creating a peak that wasn't overbearing."

The EP's second selection 'Creature of Comfort' is more of an esoteric creation. Unique and unpredictable, it showcases a quirkier side of Jamie's studio repertoire as he describes "Stemming from an experimental session one morning in the studio many years ago, this piece, is all about the storytelling of the free-styling lead synth. This is quite different from other pieces I've made in that respect and was a great deal of fun finding all the elements that would support that main character, this serpent-like creature winding its way through the track."

Drawing on a variety of fresh designs and harmonic concepts, the EP is rounded out with ‘Waterlight'. On a backbone of punchy beats comes perfectly contoured bass and a vibrant percussive cadence. Subtle yet poignant, a soft atmospheric glow encases the framework as free-flowing harmonics coruscate elegantly before timely chord changes transfer energy into a dramatic finale, as Jamie describes, "A personal exploration of raw, cyclical elements grounding a somewhat parallax field of sonic layers. I wanted to play with a solid, percussive base behind which I could smear a melancholic backdrop. This piece is all about drama and movement."

With forthcoming music on All Day I Dream, 2018 looks to be an incredible year for Jamie Stevens. ‘The Forgotten Dive' is an interstellar journey that further cements his place as one of the underground's most creative talents.

Cid Inc's Replug Records gets the Spring season underway by welcoming Mike Griego back to the label for a new EP. With a career spanning almost a decade, the Argentinean artist has been responsible for some of progressive music's most memorable creations. From his underground hit 'Sofia', to the summery melodic concepts of 'Mocca Sunset' (in collaboration with Stas Drive), Mike has left a long lasting impression on the genre. In addition to forging strong ties with Guy Mantzur's Plattenbank Records, Mike also lays claim to releases on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Flow Vinyl. Having made his Replug debut in 2012 with a single and subsequent EP, Mike now makes a long overdue return to the Finnish imprint with 'Decoy'. 

Spread across three tracks it's the title and showcase piece which gets the journey underway. Warm, dulcet kicks and intricately detailed percussion set the piece in motion, as chugging rhythms and astral motifs slowly surround the framework. Warm bass stabs only add to its widescreen appeal, carving out a meaty groove while vocal fragments add a mysterious air. The second act transfers energy further into the subconscious, as the melodic narrative develops amidst a percussive haze, before tasteful modulation sets up a classy drop and hook heavy finale. 

The EP's second selection 'Aghori' is more of a cross pollinated creation. Unique and groovy, it showcases an esoteric side of Mike's far reaching studio skills. Sitting in the creative space between house and techno, it's rhythmic affinity becomes infectious as layers of percussion, electric stabs and quirky hooks unite in a hip swinging dance floor jaunt. 

Shifting further into peak time territory the release is rounded out with 'Forgotten Ninja'. On a backbone of commanding beats comes thumping bass stabs, exotic percussion and an effects storyboard to fully saturate your senses. Subtle shades, vibrant tones and fiery stabs continue to elevate the mood, before segueing nicely into a bridge of harmonic overlays.  Stripping down into a cavernous break this wall of melodic color eventually melts to a haunting sizzle, as the groove drops for a funky final act. 

Long a regular in the sets of Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Guy J, Guy Mantzur and Replug label boss Cid Inc, the remainder of 2019 holds much promise for Mike, with the 'Decoy' collection sitting as one of the spring season's most sought after releases.
