Quick and dirty recording of the DWS diode waveshaper - no post processing other than adding the fade in/out.  This is the output from the DWS on its own - mixing the 'clean' and 'folded' signals can yield some very interesting results.

Constant frequency sine from an AVR VCO followed by random knob-twiddling on the DWS. There's a bit of a learning curve involved, but there are a lot of timbral sweet spots if you're prepared to put the effort in.

The 'default' version of the DWS has 8 diode stages for fiddling with - there may be an 'instant gratification' version available with only 4 stages at some point in the future.

Dancing In The Dark (2022)

Night Wire is an ongoing project examining the hidden electromagnetic soundscapes of our world. This is the first in a series of location-based pieces and was recorded at Housel Bay in Cornwall via air and software-defined radio.

Early spiritualists and engineers alike considered radio a means to communicate with dimensions beyond our own. Cromwell Fleetwood Varley, one of the engineers responsible for the laying of the Atlantic telegraph cables, thought it could be used to listen in to the conversations between angels. In the present day we are suffused by invisible broadcast and utility signals, and there are plenty of ghosts to be heard - signals that help us navigate, keep our watches running, open doors for us, sing to us.
