It's the half term school holidays in the UK this week, I'm sitting at home with two young kids and I read this email from Naviar for the Haiku challenge as it pops into my inbox.  I love the image this haiku creates. Outside my window at home we have tree branches that are winter bare. I was filming these the other day for another project. 
I had an idea for the music straight away - a 'bare' sort of sound to reflect the image of branches.  I started on this straight away. The kids are happy playing so I progressed and made this in about 2 hours. 

Birds in a bare tree
Dance on windswept branches
Their waiting ballet…

Disquiet Junto Project 0614: Alternate Route
The Assignment: Do something you often do, but differently.

This is a slightly different take on last week’s project 1.

Step 1: Think of something related to making music that you do a lot.

Step 2: Think of an alternate way to do it that challenges your habits.

Step 3: Make a piece of music using the approach you thought of in Step 2.

Eight Important Steps When Your Track Is Done:

Step 1: Include “disquiet0614” (no spaces or quotation marks) in the name of your tracks.

Step 2: If your audio-hosting platform allows for tags, be sure to also include the project tag “disquiet0614” (no spaces or quotation marks). If you’re posting on SoundCloud in particular, this is essential to subsequent location of tracks for the creation of a project playlist.

Step 3: Upload your tracks. It is helpful but not essential that you use SoundCloud to host your tracks.

Step 4: Post your track in the following discussion thread at llllllll.co:

Step 5: Annotate your track with a brief explanation of your approach and process.

There are two main aspects to the leftover-ness called for by the above disquiet brief in this. The first was discarded from a recent session which used the (software) Buchla Easel through two stages of Audio Damage's Enso looping machine, which resulted in a glitchy, spitty front end to the track. The second aspect was slightly outside of the brief, as it's not exactly 'recently' discarded - in fact, it comes from an Octave Cat retriggred bass loop made around 40 years ago! ... inspired by the Ultravox retriggered basslines of the early 80's, around 'Rage in Eden' era. This relates to Disquiet project 0615 where I uploaded a track from a small group I had recorded which I found generally unsatisfactory.  Nevertheless, I kept these tracks on file & this effort derives from one of them. I have attempted to make it more interesting by changes to tempo, pitch, & dynamics, together with some additional delay & reverb.
