G76 & Zefzeed latest project departs from the DJ role in favour of sth more introspective: a live act recorded at Guesthouse in Oct 2022.

GEF's one-and-a-half-hour live performance resembles a continuous sound collage in which different sound worlds are juxtaposed.

Soldered together from elements of industrial and ambient, they've added an extra layer of depth with oriental influences. Their ground groove is driven by an off-road vehicle that puts its suspension to the test.

As the mix progresses, the producers add considerable emotional weight. The songs are all cut from the same cloth, but they're just different enough to catch your ear one after the other. Distortion has always played a key role in their music, but it has never sung the way it does here.

Conventional linear space-time breaks down and is crushed beneath the mix's lumbering 4/4 heartbeat and successive waves of distortion. As each wave recedes, samples trickle forward into the mix. Voices and textures rise and fall in eerie inversion. Overlapping, implied melodies flicker into focus, then disappear. There's a "deep-rooted melancholy," a sensibility passed down from traditional Middle Eastern music that is captured in GEF's sound around minute 27. The live performance continues shortly after with an incantation: The vocal samples used convey a deep heaviness; the halting drums and minor key sound mournful and haunting.

Kyle Yip—also known as Discrete—is a JUNO Award-Nominated transdisciplinary hypersurrealist audio engineer, visual artist, and label owner of @SavvyRecords. He is internationally recognized for his highly accurate productions of electronic music, visual art, films, and haute couture fashion originally envisioned during his recurring dreams.

While Kyle maintains an active presence in Toronto's nightlife, he is equally involved with an international community of producers and musicians. His accolades from distinguished artists such as @DJ-Sneak, @Merc_Music, @MousseT, Dave @Pezzner, and @TomTrago can attest to this, as well as his releases on major labels such as @DefectedRecords and @Get-Physical-Music.

He also received an award nomination for 'Keepin' It Weird' from the Austin Music Video Festival and Best Cinematography from the Kinsale Shark Awards alongside artists such as Prince and The Chemical Brothers in 2019. In 2020, he received official selection at NewFilmmakers Los Angeles, Toronto Lift-Off Film Festival, and Blowup Chicago International Arthouse Film Festival.

From his uni days in England Bucharest native Victor Ernuteanu has been known as Guy From Downstairs. This producer first, DJ second has a unique ear for sound and over the years has been able to collect together the absurd and abstract and couple them together to form some of the most impressive sounds to emanate from the Romanian capital in recent times. Being influenced from everybody from Michael Jackson to MF Doom and everybody and anything in between GFD has a whole suitcase full of curveballs ready to throw your way.

As you might expect from an artist that has released on a section of labels such as QNQN, RAWAX, Curtea Veche, Acme, The Other Side, Robsoul, Pleasure Zone, and his own GFD imprint his sound palette is wide and varied. This varied approach is laid bare in all its electronic goodness on his instalment in our InSession podcast series. From laidback deepness to break fuelled heaters, acid soaked bangers and of course Romanian minimal, all are expertly stitched together.

Niko Maxen is a UK-born artist who comfortably resides at the forefront of a select group of artists pushing a vibrant take on minimal house with intricate textures. His rhythm-focused sound has found its way into the record bags of many of the scene's foremost artists and is embodied by a substantial discography.Recent years have witnessed him launching his own imprint, MAXEN, in addition to making appearances on Burnski's Aesthetic and various releases on the likes of Constant Sound, Arapu's Linai, Rowle, Roche Madame, Talman, and Pathway Traxx. Niko's music has been played by numerous influential figures in the underground scene and graced the dance floors of some of the most legendary clubs and festivals such as DC10 and Sunwaves.In 2018, Niko relocated to Australia from his native Leeds. It didn't take long before he was captivating the dance floors of Australia's finest nights, including frequent headline performances at the internationally renowned SASH. Despite experiencing serious illness in 2019 and starting a new family, Niko has continued to demonstrate his dedication to his art, consistently providing his followers with music through his vinyl labels and his personal Bandcamp releases. This weekend Dubtil will lead a line up with our dear Suciu and G76 at the club, this set in intended to get you warmed up to the occasion and to announce Dubtil will be one of the regular artists you will see playing at the club more often these days.  

For this specific mix I have decided to use XLR8R''s podcast words as I lacked my own when writing about one of Romania's most understated artists.

Here it is:

"Robert Istoc leads a quiet existence. Having moved from Bacău to Bucharest, the majority of his time—when not DJing—is split between making music in his home studio or walking his beloved dog in one of the city's numerous parks. "I like to spend time with my thoughts," he explains, quietly. "I enjoy being alone."

As an artist, he is similarly discreet. Barring a brief profile on the Sunrise Booking Agency website, there are absolutely no details to be found on him. There has not been one interview and there is only one recorded mix available to stream, published in March 2014 by nightclubber. Despite a production and DJ career that spans almost eight years, he doesn’t yet have a Resident Advisor page; if you wish to find out his touring dates and see him play then you must rely on either Facebook or fortune. Indeed, the few times I’ve seen him—including May’s Sunwaves Festival and June’s Arpiar event in Barcelona—have been down to the latter; and on each occasion he has been the highlight on a lineup that included the likes of Raresh, Rhadoo, Cezar and Petre Inspirescu.

That being said, those who have grown to appreciate the rolling grooves coming out of Romania over recent years will likely have heard Dubtil’s name—or almost certainly heard his music played out. His blissful “Isitor” track was a standout on Raresh’s Fabric78 release, and many of Romania’s more lauded names are known to use unreleased Dubtil productions in their sets. But for those true followers of this vibrant scene—those who take time to explore beyond the work of these main figures—Dubtil’s allure is growing to be something of a main attraction. His Sunwaves set was as well attended as any; and his productions—very few of which ever see release—expose an artist with considerable studio skill."
