Los Angeles based Venaeform Records debuts their first release initiated by the label’s creator Spheric with his project Ixïan. Ixïan Unlike Us EP delivers 7 original tracks (incl.1 digital bonus track available online) and a remix by Nordstaat. The Unlike Us EP consists of unique & diverse tracks of alternative forms of techno and ebm. Each of the tracks have their own aura of timbres from the ritualistic chants and ominous atmospheres of “Mahdi” to the track “Demon to Some” with its ebm embedded elements leading into a haunting & rhythmic passage into an underworld. “Unlike Us” track conveys the sense of one observing a possession of an unknown lifeform while the Nordstaat remix of “Mahdi” creates a dark hypnotic ebm journey. On November 8th, the British DJ and producer, Tommy Four Seven, will release Veer Remixed, a double vinyl LP featuring remixes by Ansome, SØS Gunver Ryberg, Rhys Fulber, Pessimist, Parrish Smith, Stenny, Silent Servant, Machine Woman, Homemade Weapons and Sawf.

Each artist - making their debut on the 47 label - has selected a track taken from Tommy’s second album Veer which was released earlier this year via his own 47 imprint. The result is a collection of 10 finely crafted reinterpretations of the original works.

Following the original album track order, Veer Remixed is designed to pull the listener into its parallel world, from roughed up off-beat cuts by Ansome, to ethereal post-punk takes by Silent Servant. Bone rattling Drum & Bass by Homemade Weapons to guitar fused dark beat from Parrish Smith.

The alchemy of techno is forged with a variety of tools. In darkened concrete crucibles, flowering tongues of light leap lapping across flesh slick with sweat, as bass hammers the shape of the sound into the minds throbbing within. In a city that both reveres and takes such institutions of arcane aurals as commonplace, what revelations may yet be gleaned on the dance floor?

The sonic world of Halv Drøm delve deep into this burning question. Weaving science and spirituality into well-established engines of industrial, EBM and post-punk, Saxon Jorgensen’s work seeks to break out of the confines of “dark” music (by this point an overused descriptor, particularly in these crumbling times) to shape something far more imperious and personal. Whereas techno is so often used as a sledgehammer, Jorgensen wields it like an ice-sculptor with a chainsaw.

Rooted in an appreciation of personal magick and political upheaval, accordingly a strong DIY aesthetic is Halv Drøm’s backbone. Field recordings, guitars churned into shrieking maelstroms, binaural frequencies that sidle beneath waves of polyrhythmic experimentation, and a willingness to go beyond comfortable dance patterns are all in play here. Modern electronics and ancient chakra tonal systems form a ritual of harsh healing; imperative in our time.
