But I wanted to create something with this mix that had a bit more bounce. I think this mix straddles those two worlds, and builds into something that resembles the kind of energy I’d like to think we might create on a dancefloor when we get to throw our next Handclap party 🤞.”

Sam is the founder and a resident at Pumping Velvet a London-based Queer dance party. His taste is moulded by the city’s diverse dance music scenes. Sam’s mixing style is eclectic in it’s sexiness creating a unique Sam PV groove. 

Track Highlight:
"I'd like to ID After That by Sain Guel (coming in at 39 minutes into the mix). It's a wonderfully classy slice of garage inflected house that sounds utterly timeless, even though it only just came out in December last year as part of the iconic Thai label More Rice's 7th anniversary compilation. Miguel is from the Philippines but this tune screams 90s NYC with its shuffling drums and hypnotically uplifting vocal. Just the bit of sunshine I need to see me through this winter"

The first edition of PHANTASYMIX in 2025 arrives courtesy of London’s much-loved Ariane V, a DJ and radio host who represents a new vanguard of generous selectors with an audible appreciation for dance music with depth and character. Beginning with a three-year stint building her taste and record collection from behind the counter at Phonica Records, Ariane’s knowledge and instincts for a great record have only deepened in the decade since. as exemplified not only by a tour schedule that has taken from London to Paris, Berlin and Barcelona, but weekly to Peckham, where her previous residency for Balaami FM saw her sharing the decks and the mic in conversation with DJs including Wallace, Colleen Cosmo Murphy, Mr. Ho and Moxie. 

Taking keen cue from Phantasy’s undercurrent of a ‘psychedelic sensibility’, Ariane V’s PHANTASYMIX blends the likes of Prince, CC:DISCO, Josh Caffe, Hardway Bros and more.

Liam J (he/him)

Liam is a DJ, dancer and party host based in South London. He’s the co-founder and resident of non-profit dance party Handclap, which has hosted guests including Seb Odyssey, Wallace and Tia Cousins. His tastes took root with early disco, before tracing the queer histories of electronic dance music through house and techno… tastes that have been honed over a decade on the capital’s queer dancefloors at parties like Chapter 10, Pumping Velvet and Adonis. His DJing revolves around house music and all of its subgenres, with doses of industrial muscle, dreamy atmospherics and plenty of sleaze.

Notes on the Mix ///
This is a section of a live set from last year, recorded at a party with friends in the Norfolk countryside at the beginning of summer. This was a pretty rare case of feeling totally at ease when playing, and the music flowing freely… the result of a perfect balance between considered prep, improvisation, and a great energy flowing through the dancefloor. It’s pretty upbeat (for me), lots of groovers, some classics, nice textures, and a bit sexy too. Hope you enjoy!
