Philosophy's Path

Le projet RV de Arnaud Laffond propose d’explorer les différentes «galeries» du cerveau, qui pourraient être assimilées à des éléments qu’on retrouve dans une grotte qu’il s’agisse de souterrains, de galeries, de gouffres, de stalagmites, etc. L’expérience traite des symptômes post-traumatiques dûs à un isolement mental et physique.

L'artiste français m'a invité à créer l'univers sonore de cette expérience et j’ai travaillé sur la création d’environnements sonores générés à partir de captations effectuées dans la Grotte de la Balme.

Maps and Diagrams' latest release, Clearwater, is a musical collage assembled from various sound sources and loops, with minimal composition.

The sound is more experimental, loop-focused & abstract with a theme of subtle shifts and decaying repetitions.

"Clearwater" is fractured when compared to maps and diagrams' previous releases with a conscious emphasis on eroded melodic structures.

Since releasing a track on the RND_0.34873349921 compilation on the Pause_2 label in 2001, Maps and Diagrams has released over 45 albums as a solo artist or as part of collaboration projects, he has appeared on many well-respected labels, such as; False Industries, Static Caravan, Quiet Details, Nomadic Kids Republic, Fluid Audio, Time Released Sound, Chemical Tapes, Smallfish, Toytronic, Expanding Records and both Moamoo and Symbolic Interaction in Japan – to name but a few. Tim's music also appeared several times on the world-famous John Peel radio show.

Tim runs the Handstitched* label in the UK which specialises in bespoke, handmade packaging for the more electro-acoustic and drone-like elements of sound, alongside other like-minded artists. He is involved in audio-visual commissions, including art gallery installations and music videos for a global clothing brand.

As well as Maps and Diagrams, Tim also records music under the Atlantis name and works in collaboration with Genoveva Kachurkova as Bluhm, with Charles Sage as Hessien, alongside Rob Lyon as Somme and with Arbee under the name Emba.

A town square is an open public space commonly found in the heart of a traditional town and used for community gatherings. Based on this basic perspective, it is easy to notice how the soundscape of this living center could represent not only sonically, but also from a cultural point of view, a priceless document. After an open call lasted 6 months to send most interesting audio material concerning the theme of the “square” the samples have been selected and reworked in order to create an ideal symphony of all living squares all over the world.
