Rising St Petersburg producer Meowsn purrs onto ROOB for the Running Out Of Steam sub-labels inaugural release, bringing the producer's trademark choppy hip-hop, sleazy hip-house and nostalgic radiance on a killer debut.

There’s a free jazz spirit that flows through CATMOUSEGAME2; the dusty smell of an underground speakeasy can almost be felt on the EPs opener - ‘DrunkCat’ - a bouncing cut of NYC influenced hip hop that inspires images of large concrete buildings and greetings on the street. Appropriately named, this might be what those jazz-cats in Aristocats would be making had the movie not been for children.

The subterranean spirit of hip hop is alive still on ‘Wistleman’; an improvised jazz cut that is simple and effective, before heads begin bopping with a little more conviction on the low-swing and vibrant soul of ‘Ganksta’; infectious hip-house that can’t help but be moved to.

The A-side completes with an alternative listening experience; subdued and experimental it encapsulates the energy of a lowly-lit after hours joint, before the dub-peppered vibes and let-go-for-a-walk basslines of ‘Cashflow’ invite you back to the dancefloor, ‘Ladies You Know’ maintaining that same scratch-influenced nostalgia that just feels oh so warm.

Rounding off the B-side is ‘Winter Swapping’; cold winds whip up a storm as snowflakes slowly invade the windows while we’re wrapped up warm and cosy inside with phat beats and friends.

Blur Records is proud to present the debut of Irish DJ and Producer - Tree Threes - who delivers a superb 5-track EP entitled "Our House" featuring 5 remixes by the outstanding producers Henrik Villard, Henna Onna, Manuel Kane, Max Caesar & Sune.

Born & raised in Cork, Ireland, Tree Threes is known for his distinctive sound, ranging from House to Broken Beat, inspired by fellow Cork natives Fish Go Deep & the British Broken-Beat scene.

The now London-based producer, who has released a flurry of tracks and EPs on some of the most prestigious house labels on the planet, has now dropped a wonderful 5-track EP with us entitled "Our House" and as a celebration, we decided to invite close friends of the label and some of the hottest producers in the scene at the moment: the Norwegian producer Henrik Villard, Armenian wunderkind Henna Onna, the Greek prolific artist Manuel Kane, the German upcoming talent Max Caesar and the Swedish Honey Butter label boss Sune.

Tree Threes delivers a superbly well-composed EP of understated House music, with the remixers taking it to another level with their quirky and slick reinterpretations of the originals, in what promises to be one of our most successful releases so far.

With Ethyéne returning from a long break from music, it was only right to hear from the main man himself ahead of his ‘Ethyène’s Resort’ EP.

“I wanted Ethyène’s resort to be a humble but sincere invitation to the listeners to come spend a relaxing and fairy time in my own world.
First track ‘Love is such a beautiful thing’ is an enchanting house tune with a never ending progressive groove topped by a naive but beautiful vocal sample.

Second track ‘Bread of the Desert’ is a dancefloor heater made from an underground soul sample. Aggressive hats, slapped bassline, fairy strings loop and badass vocals that remembers us of some of the Ugly Edits by Theo Parrish, record that’s been influencing me for a long time.

Third track ‘Heaven Sand’ is the first I produced chronologically and had me wanting to do this whole EP. It gets an old school city pop vibe in the beginning with reverberated synths that slowly turns into something more Miami influenced thanks to the arpeggiator. Like a global signature to this EP, the track ends with a looped vocal sample that makes you instantly feel good.

The last track, Palermo Nostalgia, has been produced during a trip in Sicily with my girlfriend and reflects the mood in which I was at this moment, happy, enjoying life but not forgetting that troubles could be back. Joy and pain are like sunshine and rain.”

Detroit is a city that has given birth to some of the most important musical movements and artists of the last century. It’s a city of infinite inspiration for the world, a city that throughout all obstacles, has managed to breed a musical vanguard that we are all paying attention and looking up to, not to mention the biting, taking, and straight up jacking of this culture. There is a feeling, even an expectation, which comes with the music from the Motor City. Producer Kevin Reynolds is a true native son of Detroit.
 
With the release of single ‘Fembehyahget’ in 2016, the seeds were planted for Yoruba to release his official debut album. But Kevin Reynolds likes to take things slow! The second single from the collection came a lot later-  ‘Come on Then’ in 2021, followed by ‘Riverfront’ in October 2022.  Now Yoruba Records is finally proud to announce, ‘A Certain Circumstance’, by former Transmat Records key player, Kevin Reynolds.  Anyone with a close connection to the electronic underground in Detroit can attest that Reynolds is one of the city’s most key artists, one of the true unsung heroes of the scene. Considering the sheer amount of talent within the Motor city, that goes way beyond a simple compliment. 

Opener ‘Abandoned Car Seat’ serves as a great introduction to Reynolds range as a producer, a master class in tech-tinged deep house. Bathed in a warm moody chord progression, accompanied by a cold synth line that’s layered with equal opposite Rhodes melodic line. The blissed-out energy of ‘Fembehyahget’, is followed by the deep tech bounce of ‘Come On Then (Rerub’) and the sun-kissed frost of ‘Riverfront’, all making a necessary re-appearance. ‘Completed Stance’ is the type of composition that finds a true home at Yoruba Records. A looped guitar starts the journey, bringing in piano, then dropping an ancestral stomp on the beat.  This has all the ingredients of one of those late-night Yoruba dance floor scorchers.

Reynolds strips things down on ‘Family Tree’, showing some bare bones funk, and dropping a vocal sample from someone you may or may not know who is deeply connected to that Detroit legacy stuff we’ve been talking about. ‘Inward Breath’ and ‘Seeking Peace’ bring some of the most transcendental moments of the album. Reminding us of the spacious and supernatural feelings of Hiroshi Watanabe’s 32 Project - music to truly lose yourself to the divine. Closing the proceedings is the broken beat electronic jazz of ‘Soil Before the Rain’.

Kevin Reynolds brings a relaxed, but intense focus to this album. Nothing feels forced! There has always been a linear narrative regarding Reynolds as Detroit’s best-kept secret. With ‘A Certain Circumstance’ that secret is finally out.
